Blue's Rant Corner
By: Blue24601 Date: September 13, 2011, 11:07 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Ugh, please, if you don't care, don't worry about this. I'm
ranting because I'm kind of p i s s e d off right now. This is
just getting ridiculous. And no one is listening to any sort of
reason.
It's about video thieves.
So WARNING: Everything ahead is strictly my opinion, not voiced
in a way I normally would if I was actually discussing the
issue. This is an angry rant.
First off, how can you seriously justify getting that mad when
you're stealing something yourself? I don't care if it's your
'creative property' or 'we're PROMOTING their material, it's
okay!' or whatever bulls h i t helps you sleep at night. Bottom
line? It's still stealing. Why the hell do you think companies
take them down for copyright? Whatever your excuses are, they
aren't going to listen to them. Just like everyone seems to
refuse to listen to any sort of 'excuse' from a video thief.
It's like taking someone else's cupcake and scowling when they
get mad at you for taking it, and then having a tantrum when
someone else takes the cupcake you stole - it's okay you stole
it from the first person, you added frosting and sprinkles to
it! Yay! But those monsters are completely ruining the cupcake,
they're not changing it, or they're adding the wrong frosting to
it, those filthy beasts!
Now, I'm not saying it's all good and dandy to go stealing
videos now, but come on, everyone's method of dealing with it is
absolutely atrocious. Come on, grow up. They take your stolen
cupcake, and so now what do you do? You tell all of your friends
and go get them to hiss nasty insults at them until they throw
the cupcake away, insisting that the cupcake isn't theirs, and
it rightfully belongs to you. Oh wait. It's a stolen cupcake.
Someone told me, "If they want to help, it's all they can do to
show how much that person isn't respected anymore." Uh, no. If
you want to help, back off, or at the very least handle it
civilly, instead of like howler monkeys. It's called growing the
hell up, kids.
First, I believe an editor who finds that their editing has been
stolen should privately confront the said thief. And when I say
confront, use the basic skills you were supposed to learn in
school. You know, the way to get people to actually listen to
you?
Which person are you more likely to listen to?
Person #1: "I can't believe you! You make me sick, this is
absolutely disgusting! I can't believe you would stoop so low,
stealing my videos! You take this down this instant and don't
you ever do something like this again, thief!"
or
Person #2: "I believe that some of the editing I worked hard on
has been used without my permission in your videos. I feel hurt
and I'm sure you had your reasons, but I would appreciate if you
removed the video. Thank you."
Doesn't the second one feel so much better? It's basic. Someone
is more likely to listen and care about your opinion and stance
if you a) state how you feel instead of attacking them and b)
acknowledge their opinion/stance/whatever. Also, it helps to
give specific examples. Just saying, "omfg u stole my vidoes!!1"
doesn't make you look any better.
Really, what does attacking them so viciously accomplish?
Nothing. At best, they're going to block, ignore, or attack you,
and NOT going to take down the video. Wow. Great job there. The
only thing you did was make yourself look like an a s s h o l e.
Congrats.
But Blue, we have the right to be angry! They're absolute scum!
Yeah? Well, think about what the music/game/anime companies
think of you.
What if they won't listen and they keep stealing videos? They
need to be stopped! If they keep doing it after you confront
them about it, do you really think this will stop it? Think
about it. Making physical abuse illegal hasn't really stopped it
from happening, now has it?
But we can't just let them have their way! We can't be
pushovers! You're walking a fine line between 'not being a
pushover' and 'being an 'a s s h o l e'. Sure, go ahead, tell
your friends, but don't carry on like you're an angelic,
innocent victim here. Explain the situation like an adult, and
advise them not to attack them like indignant b i t c h e s.
Handle it yourself, and when that doesn't work, try teaching
your friends communication techniques and having them calmly
voice their concerns to that person as well.
I get it, it sucks, but come on, this is not the same as say,
someone stealing your novel or your song or whatever. There is a
huge difference - the original material's not yours!
Be angry about video thieves, confront them, but don't viciously
destroy a person just because you're angry and offended.
Besides, stealing doesn't make your video any worse, now does
it? Is your video suddenly absolutely horrid because someone
took it? No, but your reputation is tarnished if you handle
video thieves like spoiled little children.
... And I know it's just you guys, but I really wanted to get
that out. :3 Go ahead and give me your opinions on the subject,
please.

I honestly don't care about it anymore xD
One time I got some Tifa/Genesis manip stolen from me, and I
kindly asked him/her to at least give me a bit of credit for it.
Though s/he claimed 'a friend' made it. Then I showed him/her my
original video and *poof* s/he was gone all of a sudden, video
deleted ._.
As long as you give some kind of credit, I don't care. Just ask
it in a nice & mature way^^

Uh oh, who had their video stolen now? >_> Bleh, whatever, none
of my business.
My opinion is kinda dependent on the kind of thief. If it's
someone who is trolling, they should pretty much be ignored
considering they want attention, don't give them what they want
and they'll go away. Isn't that what happened with the troll
that pretended to be theonlydoylie? Pretty much faded away and
ignored.
If it's very similar to your video but slightly different, then
lay off because for all you know it could've been inspired by
you. Don't throw a fit. Kinda like that 6th sense thing and
psychic. It's pretty much the same but there are differences.
It's not like they are trying to match everything in psychic up
to a tee, they were just inspired by it and started a non/disney
version.
Full on stealing clip for clip with your watermark on it though
and no permission... That's kinda different because then it's
proven that you created it. Either way though, don't drag your
friends into it and calling this person nasty names. Maybe get
them to say something about you being credited but not full out
"YOU'RE A BAD PERSON BECAUSE YOU DID THIS" There are some people
out there that are simply ignorant to those kind of unspoken YT
rules, at least try talking it out. If that doesn't work and the
person is being a bit of a jackdonkey then maybe report the
video. But don't go out of your way to spam it full of "YOU'RE A
PATHETIC HUMAN BEING"
That's my personal opinion anyhow. My opinion might change if
any of my videos are ever stolen but until then, this is it.

XD Everyone and their dog, really. There were at least two today
that I saw, and honestly, I was kind of disgusted. One of them
was all, ">:c You guys know what to do!" and the other one was
all, "I can't believe you would sink so low, I'm reporting you
to youtube, you scum!" But in the past month or two I've seen at
least 6-8 people whining about it. What I hate most is the
'concept' stealing, especially when the original concept is
pretty generic, like say... Cloud mourning Aerith and Zack's
death and generally being emo.
Pfffft, oh, that Sixth Sense. I remember we talked about it -
and wow, I actually didn't delete that one, even though the
second page turned into a huge b i t c h fest. Not to speak ill
of the gone, but TK rubbed me wrong sometimes. Pretty much every
conversation any of us had back then turned into a huge b i t c
h fest.
Seriously, this was every conversation:

It also didn't help that I would jump in on hormonal days and
only make it worse. -_-'
I've had 'concepts' stolen from me many times before, never a
full video though, because I usually am flattered that someone
liked my concept so much that they made their own clip based on
the concept. One time someone did take a huge piece of my video
and I didn't start anything I just went up and asked for them to
either credit me or remove it, and they added in an annotation
and description edit and everything was fine.
I do agree with you Blue about this though, some people don't
seem to get that fact and jump on and start attacking people.
There are someone people who do those MMD things that attack
every person who used it and didn't credit them and I'm like...
Didn't someone else rip the skin off the game for you? Isn't the
dance created by someone else? Aren't the camera movements
created as well? Oh wait! I saw the person that created that
background too... based on a game.
So it's funny that you mention it today because I did see a
couple yesterday, and I find it sad when it's someone with A LOT
of friends and they harass the person to the point they close
their youtube accounts to stay away from those people and then
they have the guts to label them "chicken" even though they
removed the video months ago and apologized directly to the
creator. I've only seen that happen once though.

Ugh, that thieves thing makes me feel bad "OTL *was once a
thief*
Like there was an youtube editor that I LOVED to bits, so I
would time to time use the same song and go all "inspired by
XXX's viddy. lolz subscribe her 'cause she's amazing!". She
would always play along, let's say. I never knew if she felt
offended by that... *IWASSOTHIEFPLZ*
Soon after she left youtube people began almost claiming song as
their own... At first I was like "OMGWHATHAVEIDONE" then I was
like "LOLWTFISUPWITHTHOSEPEOPLE"
^Long story
SO, YEAH. Not ALL thieves do it because they want to create
problems for the editor in question. Some just like their work
and aren't even aware that they are doing something wrong. For
those a little explaination with polite and friendly words is
enough. You two can even become friends and eat honey with Pooh
Bear (under the rainbow).
And trolls are trolls. They are like... Pigeons. People will
ALWAYS feed them and then go all "ff I hate those stupid pigeons
full of diseases! Hope they die!" ...Srly, what?
...btw, haven't they done something like that for pairings too?
"Ok, I created VaanHope. You CAN'T use this pairing 'cause it's
MINE."
And coloration.
And textures.
And something else I can't recall. (...Particle Illusion's
sparkles that weren't even made by them?)
Meh, guess those people just need something to whine about.
@Blue The first part of your rant is SOOOOO true! (not that
everything else isn't, but the first part really caught my
attention) I've never thought about the similarities before.

Don't worry Priscy, we're not about to beat you with sticks over
it. You don't steal anymore and that's what matters. Besides,
from the little story you have written down, it doesn't sound
like you were a thief. It just sounds like you used the same
song. You weren't really a thief if that's it.
Oh god, the pairing claims >_< People saying they created a
pairing is so dumb, there is probably someone else in the world
that came up with the same pairing out there. Besides, it's not
like you own the characters or the pairing. I remember someone
once got after me for a LightningxSquall video I made because
they claimed to own the pairing. It was funny, annoying but
funny.

My beliefs line up completely with yours Blue. I just don't
care. I understand feeling protective of your creative content
and having some else take credit for it can be annoying and what
not but, seriously? IT'S A VIDEO! This isn't some original book
that you've crafted for years and then someone hack/cracks your
computer and steals your manuscript and sells it as their own.
That is serious but some vid that you made based off some fanfic
with footage that you ripped from dvds, websites, whatever just
doesn't compare.
I do really hate the pairing claims as well. And the song
hogging, I can understand not posting the name of the song
because of weird copyright paranoia (i have suffered this
terrible disease), but claiming that no one can use the song
because you used it with your utlra awesome new pairing is
ridiculous.
However nothing I've ever made has been stolen to my knowledge
and I if it were I don't know that my opinions would change. Now
back to studying for that History test....*flits away*

Priscy, I don't think that's not thieving. They have NO claim to
the music in ANY way, shape, or form. Saying that they do is
just being ignorant and stupid about it.
Ugh, pairings. Now that is the height of idiocy. That, and you
have no way of proving your claim. Anyone can think of an
off-the-wall pairing - it doesn't take effort at all. And who
cares if someone else comes up with the same idea? Back the
original point - none of the characters are yours in the first
place.
Most of my paranoia about using songs other editors have used is
because of idiots like that who will freak out the moment anyone
touches the song they want to use. Or their 'adoring' fans. It's
the 'armies' that p i s s me off the most. Seriously, what is
wrong with people? What happened to just having friends?

Well, at the time I thought I was the worst thief of the world
LOL And I would also "steal" effects and stuff... Well, childish
editors sure know how to make you feel guilty XD

UGH I understand it so well ;^;
It's like one thing that happened in DA. They freaking KNEW each
other and involved their fans even through it could be easily
solved that by PM and/or by talking to an gallery administrator.
And, obviously, it ended up with one of them being acknowledged
as an "terrible person" and receiving death traits *headdesk*
