       Question 16

Paul states that the time of salvation is near. Believers had
already experienced the saving grace of Jesus Christ, leading to
salvation (Romans 1:16), so what did he mean by the statement
"salvation is nearer to us now"? See Luke 21:27-28; Romans
       8:23-24

To give context and gain understanding of this question, I
believe we must backup and start with verse 18 (Romans 8:18-22).
"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not
worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed IN
US. For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly awaits
for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was
subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who
subjected it in hope; because the creation itself also will be
delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious
liberty of the children of God. for we know now that the whole
creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now."
It would appear that the writers of this Bible study are
alluding to the return of Christ and the second coming of Jesus.
However, I believe that what the scripture is talking about here
is the second coming of Jesus through the church. Not the
organization called the church, but through the power of the
Holy Spirit being revealed in us as His people, the "revealing
of His glory in and through us, the sons of God.
Verses 23 -24 talks how we who have already tasted the first
fruits of the Spirit (the gift of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost)
still groan within for the adoption and the redemption of our
body. I believe that the Holy Spirit inside us is groaning and
wanting to be revealed in and through us. He wants to
demonstrate the power of god through us. we are to be a light in
the darkness and rise up and demonstrate through supernatural
miracles, signs and wonders as did the early church, but even
greater things will we do ( John 14:12-14). I believe that the
greatest and best is yet to come in and through those who will
walk in the Spirit and allow themselves to be poured out and
used. And THEN Jesus will physically return.
