       Question 9
By: tmstanhope Date: April 1, 2020, 3:30 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
In this passage, those in authority are God's servants who carry
out punishment (wrath) on wrongdoers. Choosing to be in
subjection to authority protects a person from punishment and
       allows for a clear conscience.
       a) How would you describe someone who is not subject to
       authority?
       b) Why would these actions bring about this wrath of God?
       c) How does submitting to authority contribute to a clear
       conscience?

       a) I would first have to assume that they are not trying to
follow one of God's higher laws that contradicts the authority
in command. After this is established, I would describe a person
who defies authority as prideful and arrogant, and as someone
who presumes to be "above" such rule. More than often, people
who thumb their noses at authority have rebellious hearts and
think mostly if not entirely of themselves with no regard for
       others.
       b) Rebellion against authority is not the way of peace. And God
calls us, as believers, to be peacemakers. Also, Proverbs
6:16-19 explains that among the 6 things that God detests are
those who stir up discord among the brethren. If people stay in
submission to the governing authorities, they do not take
license and stir up trouble among people.
       c) If I have "followed the rules", then I don't have to worry
about being guilty of breaking them.
