       What influences a person's fear of those in authority and why?

       People are moved and influenced to submit and obey both
       extrinsically (fear of punishment) as well as intrinsically (the
       reward that comes from submission is a clear conscience and
       having a safe and peaceful society).
       This concept applies to everything in life. For example, a
       teacher uses both methods to maintain control in the classroom.
       There is punishment for those who break rules put in place that
       will disrupt the classroom. But ultimately, a good teacher will
       instill an intrinsic desire in the heart of each student to help
       contribute to an environment where they can learn. A love and
       value of learning is the incentive and the goal.
