The Nigeria Police Force Liaison and Consultant to the United
States Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Mogaji Busayo, has described the
appointment of Tunji Disu as Inspector General of Police by
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a significant step toward
accelerating reforms within the Force.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Busayo congratulated the new
IGP, noting that his emergence comes at a critical time when the
nation’s security architecture requires renewed operational
strength and administrative discipline.
“IGP Disu’s appointment is both timely and strategic,” Busayo
stated. “His extensive background in operations and
administration aligns perfectly with the present needs of the
Nigeria Police Force.
The President’s characterization of him as an operational police
officer is not only a recognition of his field expertise but
also a clear mandate to strengthen operational readiness across
the country.”
He further stressed the need for enhanced collaboration between
the Police and key stakeholders to improve efficiency and
restore public confidence. “This moment calls for deeper synergy
between the Force and critical partners to promote
intelligence-led policing, improve accountability, and build
sustainable public trust,” he added.
Busayo also commended the recent inauguration of the State
Police Implementation Committee by the IGP, describing it as a
bold step toward structural reform and decentralized operational
effectiveness. “The initiative reflects proactive leadership and
a clear commitment to repositioning the Force to respond
effectively to evolving security challenges,” he said.
Recalling previous professional engagements with the IGP,
including collaborative efforts on the Special Intervention
Squad supported by the United States Government, Busayo
emphasized that reform-driven partnerships remain crucial to
capacity development, specialized training, modern equipment
acquisition, and institutional strengthening.
He reaffirmed his commitment to mobilizing credible local and
international partners to support ongoing reform initiatives,
expressing optimism that under Disu’s leadership, the Nigeria
Police Force would record measurable progress in
professionalism, accountability, and service delivery.
