Title:None,Content:A pharsal verb a verb combined with an adverb
or preposition or sometimes both,to give a new meaning. For
example, go in for,win over, take part, and see to.it comprised
of a verb and particles. The meaning of these combinations may
not be obvious or obscure. Each combination may consist of a verb
and one or two particles conveying either obvious or obscure
meanings.when the meaning is obscure, it becomes and idiomatic
expression.on the other hand,it becomes unidiomatic when the
other way round. Examples of phrasal verbs include: put
out_quench,put off_postpone,come out_appear, go up_rise,turn
down_refuse to consider, get along_manage,give in_surrender,
bring up_raise,hold over_defer,etc.
Note that they are two types of phrasal verbs.transitive
phrasal verbs which require an object to make meaning,eg the
CALLED OFF the meeting, and the intransitive phrasal verb which
requires no object,eg the car BROKE DOWN.
Title:None,Content:It should also be noted that a phrasal verb
may have more than meaning eg I FELL IN WITH an old friend of
mine. (Meet by chance). I am ready to FALL IN WITH any thing you
propose(agree to). Also a change of one of the particles may
signal a change in the meaning of the phrasal verb eg stand up
for (support),stand up to (oppose), etc. Phrasal verbs can also
be referred to as seperable phrasal verb. This is when the verbs
and the prepositions can be separated. Eg TURN ON the
light. Please TURN the light ON.However ,nonseparable phrasal
verbs are those that can not be separated. They always remain
together to make meaning. Examples look after(passed away), give
up,etc.Example he PASSED AWAY yesterday(died). Not that all
intransitive phrasal verbs are inseparable. ASSIGNMENT new
