What elements of a story make it a great/legendary one? What can
a writer do to make their story as great and original as
possible?

From Writers digest, they state 7 ways to make your story great:
1. A writer should go beyond the 5 senses, use more body
language in writing
2. A writer should embrace idiosyncrasies, people behave in a
rational way only part of the time and at the other times, they
are irrational and crazy. make the character unusual and weird
in their own way
3. A writer should forget about being pretty in their writing.
Dwell in the darkness, bring up ugly topics, the topics people
dont want to face
4. A writer should not underestimate the audience and resist
urge to overexplain
5. Make sure the writing has a purpose
6. Make the audience laugh
7. Make the audience cry (or at least want to) - play with the
audience's emotions

A great story is one where:
1. shows emotions and vulnerability
2. have a protagonist at the heart
3. the main character learns something in the world
4. personal transformation
5. dramatic tension...asks "What will happen next?"
6. memorable details revelant to the core message
7. the moral is the heart of the story
8. have the lessons that encourage people to pursue their higher
values

Here are the 11 laws of great storytelling: My source is

1. Assume everyone has ADD
2. Spend most of your time on the first 10 pages of your script
3. Write roles to attract movie stars...watch movies that have
won academy awards
4. Write economically
5. Make sure every character has a unique voice- avoid
stereotypes, give them quirks and unusual traits, create someone
an actor will love to play, transform him/her over the story,
make their journeys difficult
6. Understand your audience- will men under or over age 25 or
women under or over age 25 be most interested?
7. Know your 3 act structure- by pg 10, introduced to hero, his
goal and genre; by end of Act 1, where is the story going? what
happens if the hero doesnt acheive his goal, who is the
villian?; by the middle of Act 2, what stakes have been raised?
what new obstacles are happening now?; by end of Act 2, what
trouble is your hero in now? how does he plan to get out of it?
; in Act 3, the hero should have a new plan and find his way out
8. Keep the theme consistent throughout the film
9. Watch and re-watch successful movies
10. Know the goal, the stakes (what happens if goal is not met)
and the villian (person/thing stopping the hero from the goal)
11. Leave the audience wanting more

Here are some tips from Grandice's source on how to create vivid
characters:
1. Give them unique names
2. personal props for each character- what is something they
never go without?
3. unique mannerisms or physical habits
4. their actions should reflect their personality
5. What are the character's linguistic patterns? like attitude,
grammar, vocab, exclamations and humor?
6. What are the character's motivations- from scene to scene
(scene-specific objective) and overall ( super objective)?
