       January
       Space
       NASA hires two hyperbrains with no previous rocket experience to
       work on their new spaceship designs.
       A proposal is drafted to use the Air Staitons as jumping boards
       to get larger masses into space than previously possible. The
       proposal is looking forward to Mars travel, but the military
       implications are soon seized as plans for orbital weapons arrays
       are drawn up.
       Work begins on putting such an array over Vietnam, with the
       intent of shooting down their own efforts to launch satellites.
       Mariner 9 begins mapping Mars.
       Russia announces expectations to reach the Moon before the
       year's end.
       UN
       Kurt Waldheim becomes the Secretary General of the United
       Nations. He imediately begins pushing at the metahuman issues.
       He espouses a belief that, given the abuses of superhumans on
       the mental sovereignty of others metahumans be categorically
       banned from UN meetings in any capacity. This is widely
       supported but the issue of detection becomes a sticking point.
       Technology
       The first scientific electronic calculator, the HP-35 is
       released and priced at $395. Within three weeks a hypermind
       demonstrates a working prototype for a more advanced full color
       graphing calculator and proposes to mass produce it at half the
       cost.
       Magnavox releases Odyssey, the first ever home video game
       system.
       News
       Gerald Riviera releases this documentary, making him more
       visible in the public eye.

       Terror
       An anonymous note leads police to find eight bombs in safe
       deposit boxes in New York, Chicago, and San Fransisco due to
       explode in February. The bombs were placed back in July 1971. A
       ninth bomb went off prematurely in September.
       UK
       Major coal strikes force Britain to adopt a 3 day week.
       Bangla Desh
       Bangla Deshi independence becomes official.
       Surfing
       Huge Monday in O'ahu, single greatest day in surfing history.
       Fuel
       OPEC raises the price of crude oil to $2.49 a barrel.
       New Dehli
       Mass poisoning from bootleg liquor at a wedding. More than a 100
       people die. A vigilante widely believed to be a metahuman begins
       going after bootleggers, starting with those responsible for the
       wedding disaster.
       US
       Talk of a ban on metahumans holding public office begins getting
       serious support in various states. Metavictims Anonymous debates
       this internally.
       Ireland
       January 30th: Bloody Sunday. UK military open fire on a peaceful
       protest, shooting 28 unarmed civilians. 13 died outright,
       another is in critical care. Two others were run over by
       vehicles, while many more were injured by nonlethal means
       (rubber bullets, etc.).

       February
       Melbourne
       Eugene Irons's various accusations against O'Doyle take on
       renewed vigor when footage from Bank of Melbourne security
       cameras shows a man identified as O'Doyle (and O'Doyle's seen
       the footage, it looks like him) robbing the place. He appears to
       materialize inside the vault, empty out safe deposit boxes into
       a bag, then disappears again.
       Oh, and he smiles and waves at the camera, giving it a good look
       at his face.
       Stateside
       In New York, Horne is visited by a distraught young woman... who
       just happens to be the daughter of the most powerful woman on
       Earthn and the world's most beloved man.
       And, Dr. Hertz is surprised to be tipped off by an anonymous
       source that there's a federal warrant for his arrest.
