Rita gives her husband a look that expresses just how little
humor she sees in this.

sure it's fine. Becoming a cloud was disconcerting, I'll admit,
so I assume this is as well. I've never seen a meta power
actively hurt its owner. So just keep going and we'll talk
later."
Rita nods. "Okay," she says, "I'll try not to worry."
[quote author=PlebeianTyrant link=topic=38.msg355#msg355
date=1497395143]Hertz takes a moment to lift up a cigarette and
take a puff. "What are we having?"
Rita is taken aback by the question. "I'm sorry," she says,
after recovering, "I hadn't even thought about that, in all the
confusion. I didn't even think we'd be here." She furrows her
brow and thinks.
Usually, in a spot like this, Rita would just pull out some
leftovers out of the refrigerator (godsend, that technology, and
the new model they got in the new house even automatically
defrosted). Rita still hadn't gotten out of the habit of cooking
for a family, so there were leftovers almost every night now.
But, no, that wouldn't do right now. Not with David home. They
had to show him home comforts.
"I think there's a chicken in the ice box," Rita says. She'd had
a fridge for more than a decade now, but still called it an ice
box. She went downstairs and started busying herself in the
kitchen.

Right as Rita is about to open the refrigerator Wallmand appears
right in front of her and wraps his arms around her and holds
her tightly to him. "I don't think I thanked you for getting our
son back to us. Thank you, dear. You and the kids mean the world
to me."

Rita smiles, not even alarmed at the sudden appearance. She hugs
him back tightly. "I'm just glad I could," she says quietly.
Wally realizes that she's crying softly into his shoulder. "It's
so strange. I... I know what he's thinking and... I don't know
how we can help him."
She stands and cries into his shoulder for a little longer, then
pulls back to wipe her eyes. "It'll be fine," she says, "We'll
figure it out. It'll all be okay." She smiles at Wally, the same
clean smile she had when they met. The same uncertain facade.
"He'll come round."

Wally takes her cheek in his hand and leans in to give her a
kiss and holds her tight. He thinks back to the day David was
born, remembering the pride he felt at having a son. A bit old
fashioned, but it mattered. Now, Wally has to think about what
to do with this new child that shared the same name. There was
no pride in this kid now.

Wally feels a strange pressure in his mind. The feeling is like
the certainty that someone's watching you, but instead of being
creepy it's comforting. Not sinister but caring.
"What are you thinking, Wally?" Rita asks, as she pulls the
chicken out of the fridge.
OOC
The feeling is Rita trying to use her power, with controlled
effect on your psychic block you can either let it in or keep it
out.
You know, one of the odd things I keep finding about my style in
these is how I shift how I refer to people. Most of the time in
writing people seem to stick to one name (well, Russian authors
don't seem to), but I keep finding it's more natural to use
names more contextually.
No real point, just thinking about how I've been referring to
Hertz as Hertz, Wally, Dr. Hertz and Wallmand even in the third
person narration based on context.

Wally lets her in. He quiets the raging tempest that most people
would see as his gestalt mind as, trying not to overwhelm her.

OOC
Well, I'll assume quieting your mind means you're going to
choose not to set the Wiggle Die of your Mind to 10, and none of
the 7 normal dice rolled 10, so Hertz isn't going to discover
the power of Mind 8 just yet.
IC
The minds meet. Rita becomes an open book, her thoughts words on
the page. No, more like an aquarium. Thoughts swim like fish in
and out of darker, dimmer depths, but Wallmand is still aware of
them, even when they are only silhouettes. Distress and worry
are foremost. There's a great confusion, weighed down by focus
on tasks at hand and what she does know. The sudden onset of
powers is troubling her, but David's are more distressing than
her own. He doesn't seem to have any control over his.
Rita's distress gets worse as she comes into contact with
Wallmand's mind. The way he views his family hits her hard. It's
not that she didn't know, on some level, that it was different
for him, but the full reality is still strange. Worse, the shear
size and vastness of his thinking, the power and scope, is hard
for her to keep up with.
Rita's love for David is a lot more direct and simple. Emotional
and instinctual, not backed by any reason or fact beyond the
certainty that he is, and always will be, her baby boy. Pride
doesn't enter into it, but fear does. So much fear about what he
is now, what he's been through, what comes next.
It's confusing and emotional at first to be aware of each others
thoughts. It first exacerbates the differences, but even over
the next minute of contact understanding deepens that.
Even while this is happening, Rita preheats the oven and
prepares the chicken. It makes her feel useful. A good meal will
help David.
David isn't going to appreciate much, she thinks to her husband,
Force will just cause him to push back, but we can't let him go
back to where he was.
And he's Metahuman now. She hesitates, not wishing to think the
next part in words, but Wallmand can feel the thought forming
even without her bothering: the army. As a metahuman, David is a
prime candidate for conscription, and if anyone can straighten
him out it might be the army.

A simple string of images and conceptualized reports from the
war float through Hertz's many minds like an aurora in the
night's sky of their shared mindscape. It's a very simple, but
effective way to convey his opinions on this course of action.

information)

Rita loses her grip on the chicken. She almost drops it
altogether, but manages to have it go clattering on the counter.
She thinks in profanity, but it doesn't really form a word, just
the feeling of it.
"Okay," she says the words almost as she thinks them creating a
strange echo-like effect, "In future, Wally, could you please
warn me before showing me things like that?"
Then she sighs.
"Okay, so what do we do with him?"
Wally gets an image of his own, without a warning. "Oh dear,"
Rita says, "I didn't mean to think of that. You should see it,
but it's rough."
Even as she tries to give him warning, she's thinking of it.
It's a dark room somewhere. There's a strong smell of shit and
the impression of an unfocused ceiling, covered in cracks that
cockroaches occasionally dart in and out of. There is also a
feeling of utter overwhelming bliss. It's exactly the place to
be, and the state to be there in.
"That's not where I found him," Rita says, "But he remembers
that place. Wally, he remembers it fondly."

Apologies rain in a light sprinkle through the mindscape.
Millions of solutions rage across the conciousnesses.
"We will work to solve this problem." The 'We' in his statement
includes not only himself and her, but also David, Sara, and
even a sense that Wallmand is including the greater
organizations he works with to put efforts into solving David's
problem. Then a sense that a great empathy spreads to all who
are afflicted by drug addiction. A solution must be found for
this epidemic.
