"I'm not really sure how much I'm allowed to say...it's
certainly exciting work. Much more interesting than my old job."
(((I'm assuming that not much, if any of our Cambodian adventure
has made it into public knowledge, which is why B is dancing
around the subject a bit.)))

Correct. You don't get to talk about Cambodia without spilling
state secrets.

Luci talks with Beatrice for a while, mostly a combination of
small talk and talking about the dogs. Then she gets pulled over
by her husband to talk to some senator and excuses herself as
politely as she can.
OOC
That didn't seem to be going anywhere, so unless you had
specific interactions in mind it seems safe for Beatrice to move
on to other things at the party.

Hertz clasp a hand on Boris' shoulder and presents a beer bottle
in the other leaned in in a clinking toast motion, "To our new
leases!" Hertz smiles at him.

"To new leases," Boris echoes and raises his glass. They drink,
but as though from nowhere LBJ bursts in on their conversation.
"Boris, Wally, so glad you could make it. Hang on a moment,
Wally, there's someone I've been meaning to get you to talk to.
Wilbur!" he shouts out to a nearby man, "Wilbur get the Hell
over here." He turns back to Hertz, "This here's Wilbur J.
Cohen, Secretary of Health, Education and Wellfare. His job is
to keep the Great Society going. Most important job there is."
The man walks up. "Hello," he says. He's not exactly impressive
to look at. Doughy, bald and framed behind large glasses. "It's
a pleasure to finally meet you, Dr. Hertz."
"Now, Wilbur's the best public policy man we've got."
"Please, Mr. President, I'm not-" Cohen protests.
"Horse shit you're not!" Johnson says over him, then turns back
to Hertz, "This man built Medicare from the ground up. Jack used
to call him "Mr. Social Security" basically, all the good stuff
he had a hand it."
"Well, I think Gardner deserves some of the credit," Cohen says,
still trying to be modest.
Johnson nods sagely, "That he did, that he did, but wheels turn
and you get put up where you belong. Where you can change the
world. You see," he again speaks to Hertz, "We've been talking
about where the Big Society is going in this new term of office,
and one subject we keep coming back to is Metahumans. We've
already seen some huge leaps in science, and your diabetes fix
is the sweetest girl in the whorehouse in medicine, before we
even get to how you made yourself younger. I've been hogging you
up for this damn war, and I'm sick to death of it. Time we
started putting what you can do to use here at home, where we
can do some real good. Now, you two get talking. I've got to rub
some elbows." He smiles broadly and eyes someone across the
lawn. "And there's the elbow in question..." he starts to move,
but then stops. "Oh, and Wally, before I forget, I've had a talk
with Lady Bird, and you and your wife are invited to stay at the
ranch a few days, if you'd like I've got some things I'd like to
talk to you about one on one." He smiles and pats Hertz on the
shoulder, "You talk it over with Rita, alright?" Then he turns
back to his quarry, "Thurgood, you got a moment?"
Dr. Hertz is left alone with Secretary Cohen. Cohen begins
talking. Turns out that Cohen is an incredibly boring man to
talk to one on one, head full of technical details and policy
solutions rather than the charm of an elected politician. He's
bland, but its clear he knows his stuff.
He spends a little over an hour talking to Hertz about some
proposed projects and Bills that they're pushing. It seems
Johnson has cleared certain metahuman files for him, so he knows
about certain powers and uses already, and there's no small
number of ideas for some of them. However, in Cohen's field,
he's more directly interested in Hertz's own powers and
abilities. Agriculture is thinking up uses for people like
Tiffany Kells (though her healing abilities are a miracle cure
in their own right), Housing and Urban Development is competing
with Transportation to be the first to track down whoever's been
erecting 'herms' across Death Valley, and Justice is busy trying
to get some metahuman police initiative going. But, Health,
Education and Wellfare has somewhat less immediate issues. So,
he talks to Hertz about the direction of his projects, and a
change to medicare law that will enable diabetics who couldn't
otherwise afford his new cure to get ahold of it.

Finally! Some one Hertz can be candid with. A fellow technocrat.
Wally will speak at length with Cohen. He can't help but like
fellow intellectuals. One thing Hertz will bring up is a cheap
and distributable forum of birth control for both sexes. This
may seem to be on politically shaky ground, but if Cohen handle
Medicare, he could handle this.

For men, the issue of cheap, distributable brith control was
settled in the '40s, when the government handed out condoms to
military personnel, along with propaganda promoting their use.
The devices have only grown in popularity since then.
Legalizing common contraception for unmarried women is still a
volatile political move. Cohen himself seems mildly
uncomfortable with the subject, but recognizes it needs to be
addressed and listens intently to Hertz's views.
The problem at present, of course, is that the most feasible,
and least divisive, form of cheap and distributable birth
control is oral contraception... which is presently under attack
by certain influential feminists. Barbara Seaman, the health
journalist, has just released a book on the subject and its
causing waves.
Cohen promises to look into the issue, and get some of the women
in NOW involved, but isn't quite sure what the governments next
step is. For the public good, they'd like to legalize it for all
women, at the very least, that way it can be in the doctor's
hands, on a case by case basis, to prescribe the contraceptives.
He does not acknowledge that, law and prescriptions be damned,
unmarried women already have surprising access to the pill.
Legalization would go a long way to increasing availability, but
it's also not the easiest sell at the federal level.

Hertz is amused by the fact the discussion send focused on
female birth control. Hertz offers the opportunity for a dual
sex contraceptive. He also promises no loss of functionality on
either end and the ability to undo it with a very simple action.

"Impressive, if you can pull it off," Cohen says, "But, I've
never come across medical literature suggesting a single
treatment for both sides. Making it available... that's another
problem. But, if we can get Johnson onboard, I'm sure he can get
it done."
