Ran into Richard Kadrey novels. First hit "The Everything box",
then ran into the Sandman Slim series.
Much fun reading and so close to reality.

Not familiar with those RG, I'm about 60 chapters into Moby
Dick, what an amazing read it has been so far, really enjoying
it.

I was being the sarcastic smart ass, that I am, when I said
close to reality.
Richard Kadrey draws you into magic/vampires/spirits/angels/gods
in a very fun smart ass perspective. It's almost like: OK, why
not?

Hi guys! Long time no nuthin', right?
I was trolling through a mostly unused email address and found
something from Ray. A quick back and forth ensued in which he
mentioned the Kave and so I logged in for a squizz over coffee
to see how y'all are doing...and now feeling I should say g'day
while I'm here.
I've flicked through a few of the more recent threads...some
intense stuff still gets shared here, huh? I see she's now left,
but Ness has sure seen a lot, huh?
But I'm not here to impose my input, neither to lionise nor to
criticise your content, as I've not been an active participant
and no longer feel that right...but I do want to share with you
that I can't help feeling genuine affection for this
group...after all, we're alumni of the same institution.
You're of a rare kind of entity: one that the making of a better
world for all would require more of, not less. And looking
around, you cannot say that about too many of our fellow
humans... so, so many of whom the very best service they could
perform for this world would be to just leave it.
I know I'm idealistic...and now elitist as well it seems.
Happy New Year!

Ness,
You must know that wherever you go, this is status quo:
"It is a place for absolute dregs of Western civilization, in
levels of unscrupulousness, attitudes and behaviour."
Not just Cambodia, it's everywhere to some degree.

Hafta say that Aleppo/Mosul/and hundreds of other places are,
also, somewhat brutal.
And... many have no air conditioning! ::)

Yep, yep... would have to agree that Aleppo et al trumps
Sihanoukville for horror...it's really just another kind of
horror... examples of the different scale of chessboard upon
which men play out our obscene fantasies of domination.

Greetings all, nice to see your words again as well B, I take a
bit of umbrage at being called out as a deletist Nessa, I have
only ever deleted one thing from this forum and that was your
video of a child being tortured. Yes it happens, that and worse
but is it something to download and hang onto? Seemingly for you
it is, why I am not sure but I do not question that your
reasoning is sound for you. For me, having created this site I
sense liability and I certainly do not trust any government's
ability to discern what the intent of having said video posted
here could be, hell, with the many types of conversation here we
would probably be viewed as anarchists and nihilists at best, so
be it, but a child torture aficionado? Well, one has to draw the
line somewhere and it's on me to draw it.
As to Cambodia... When Jed was trying to entice me to come over
(it didn't take much enticement) I was constantly filled with a
kind of dread about the trip, I interpreted this as "fear of
annihilation of the ego" but after doing some study I realized
that I like nice people who try to want good for others and I
sensed none of that in Cambodia no matter how thrilled Jed
seemed to be with that type of freedom. Call me soft, no doubt
living an entire life in a place where people helping others in
need is the norm and the occasional nasty person an anomaly has
made me supremely soft and susceptible in many ways, one could
say I have never been to the "external" jungle.
Not internally tho, few have plumbed the depths of emotion and
psyche to come out the other side the way I have, the way I
sense we have (projection at it's finest). Like Pip I have, in
horror and wonder, seen God's foot on the treadle but this
body/mind came back, a washed up ghost among infants it seems
now. So be it and so be whatever "this" is, all of it. The
freedom is in the acceptance, the total acceptance is what sets
one free, not truth, wtf is truth? Total acceptance even while
acting against entropy is the truth here. Paradox rules this
existence and egos (being dual) aren't capable of holding
paradox, the thinner the ego the larger the capacity to hold
this paradox; "Everyone is forgiven and there was never anything
to forgive" nothing more. In the face of this known quantity
here, ALL arguments cease, all questions are naught and any
discontent with existence, child torture included, is just the
ego trying to fight it's way out of a paper bag.
No wonder no one gets it.
We were never more than monkeys, never mattered any more than
monkeys matter to one another and yet here, there is still a
call to kindness. I feel it programmed deep and it feels good to
respond to that call, I am kind for no other reason than it
fulfills a programmed need in this body/mind, probably the same
way being unkind fulfills a programmed need in a "bad" monkey's
Body/mind...
"It's all the same fvcking thing man" - Janis Joplin
I never went to Cambodia, there was never a need, only an ego's
sense of aggrandizement, of gaining the last piece to the
puzzle, to finally be enlightened. After I got my passport the
element that needed to get out of this painful existence, the
entity that couldn't stand existence anymore, the misshapen
Quazimodo that clung to it's bell tower existence like it was
life itself... fell away, disintegrated into thin air like the
phantom it was. No longer any need for the guru, his paradise,
his concepts and language, or any other.
Rarely any need to vomit anymore and yet, there it is,
semi-digested pizza filling the preceding lines ;D
Life goes on seemingly! Traveling a lot this year as flights are
ridiculously cheap, France in April, Dublin (for U2 Joshua Tree
tour) in July and Rome in September. The girlfriend and I had
our 1 year anniversary on New Years, she reads this forum and
enjoys exploring life and these themes which makes for a
relationship unlike any I've ever experienced.
"Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself;
I am large, I contain multitudes."
Never has that quote meant more than now. Cheers!
