I don't disagree with this in principal, I think everyone should
think for themselves, do what their instincts tell them to do.
That being said, how many people have perished because they
didn't trust the police telling them to leave their homes for
shelter during hurricanes? Did they know better than the police
what was coming? When doctors told Steve Jobs he had pancreatic
cancer and handed him treatments for it, he decided he was
smarter and went the holistic route, how did that turn out? His
one regret was that he didn't listen to "those in authority".
Hmm. In what way could one be cognizant of the value that
experts bring to the table in assessing anything from medical
problems to legal issues, from when to plant crops to the date
of the next asteroid shower and yet still rely on one's own
       powers of deduction?
First off, if what I see in society around me is any indication,
there are a lot of people out there whose powers of deduction
are just plain sh!t. So how does one gain better powers of
deduction? Surprise! By doing what Jed (and we in here) have
been promulgating from the start, Autolysis, clean out the false
ideas and beliefs you currently hold, in this case maybe it's
"all experts are corrupt and can't be trusted" that needs to be
examined, and voila! You're now ready to assess without
prejudice, the truthfulness of any info and entity that comes
       your way.
After one has cleansed themselves of all their irrational and
false beliefs, then comes the clarity to verify for oneself
whether a particular person, agency, political party or country
is leading one down a path that serves "them" instead of you and
to what degree (nothing is ever black and white in these cases).
Once your mind is clear and ego diminished you can more
accurately assess the motives of those around you, thats been
the experience here, I was on a constant trust/distrust
rollercoaster prior to ending belief in beliefs. Once that attic
was cleaned out, it became so much simpler to assess the
veracity of others and also constantly aware of ego's desire to
       take the reins as well.
life became simple and the fear that drove the distrust as well
as the need to trust, was negligible within my system, the big
fear, fear of no self, had been seen as false as well, shifting
the experience here from focus on needs and desires, back to
experiencing now, one step at a time.

But you've got the music, you've got the music
       In you, don't you?
Down on the West Coast, I get this feeling like
It all could happen, that's why I'm leaving
You for the moment, you for the moment
       Boy blue, yeah you
       ...

Down on the West Coast, they love their movies
Their golden gods and rock and roll groupies
And you've got the music, you've got the music

Jed is on the money, from the opening sentence.
Given that any activity associated with genuine science is in
some way a process of applied scepticism, tasked with honestly
disproving carefully crafted hypotheses… then indeed and
absolutely: anybody saying "trust the science" is uttering
perhaps the most absurd, un-scientific thing possible and should
       not be taken seriously.
...if the conversation is merely about science.
But because that exact phrase is so often used as an utterance
of coercion and control, anybody uttering it should also be
removed from office, position of authority, shunned, or at least
excluded from adult conversation because they are trying to turn
science into their gimp b1tch, in an attempt to either prescribe
or proscribe someone else's behaviour or belief.

Recently someone had recommended Barbara O’Neill, a naturopath
from Australia, as someone who was sensible in her approach to
health, in a nutshell it contains, plenty of sunshine, exercise,
good food, using herbs for minor ailments, hydration and faith
in a higher power. She was banned for life in Australia from
practicing her profession., for not “trusting the science” while
the pandemic was in full swing. Wikipedia dubbed her as
“dangerous”. As Mic points out, and what the Jedvaita article
was about, was the inference to “trust the science” that people
blindly followed even after it was proven that no jab prevented
from getting or transmitting, nor did social distancing or
masking or locking down people, had any benefit whatsoever. Yet,
to this day, people “trust the science”. It was indeed used for
coercion and made popular amongst the dead brained people who
still to this day, cannot see what’s going on. As Ray pointed
out, anyone who questioned the “science” is a conspiracy
theorist. Completely dismissed that questioning was in order.
And that is coming from someone who claims to know the truth.
You gotta hand it to the power of delusion.

I liked what Plato had said about it. I think that like most
ways of approaching things there is a balance to strive for. I
have no problem questioning authority. As an only child to a
single mother that moved around and so had little relationships
at all I usually process and analyze things for myself. But the
flip side of that is having trust issues, isolation and narrow
mindedness. Fact is it's healthy to know what you don't know and
be open to input but that said it's up to the individual to do
what they will with the information and circumstances they are
       presented with.
PS. I did not and will not get "the jab" only in part because I
do not trust foreign substance but also in confidence in my own
bodies ability to fight illness. Also don't succumb to social
       pressure very easily.
Made me think what makes people succumb to social pressure, give
up self sovereignty when I just dawned on me that some people
just like to be lead and aren't interested in that
       responsibility.

Hmm. I wasn't thinking of "Trust the science" as a slogan that
the left was selling when I read Crystal's post, just thinking
of it as a basic statement, after reading Mic's post I could see
how political factions took a statement that on the surface
seems like a smart rule of thumb and twisted it to validate
their political agenda. From that position I agree with Jed's
statement totally. But lets not throw the baby out with the
       bathwater right?
"Believe all women" was a mantra that was being glommed onto by
every "Me Too" advocate around the globe, that one was very easy
to see as BS from my vantage point and was no different than
saying "Believe all people". Uhhh that's the most ridiculous
       crap ever.
The best way to pull the wool over anyone's eye's is to take
over a seeming truth and twist it to validate your agenda...
"The jews own all the banks in Germany and meanwhile we are
starving, the jews are our enemy!" Hitler, was really good at
cultivating grievances, as are most despots, it's how they gain
power and get people to do their bidding "Us and Them"
       mentality... but I digress.
