Welcoming the Stranger
DIR By: biisuto
Date: February 11, 2022, 3:41 am
---------------------------------------------------------
There's a distinct pattern here, fellas, that one needn't be too
clever to see.
Over the years we've seen a string of avatars - who may all well
be the same person - come into this group and have a jolly good
splash at challenging the status quo… and all who have been met
with visibly escalating hostility from any one or more of we who
dwell occasionally here and see it as "our turf". No surprise,
those avatars themselves speak loudly to this point - although
they also (curiously, all of them) seem to do everything in
their power to also inspire this very hostility, blending fact
with ad hominem-conflated opinion and lobbing in salvos of
grenades before retreating and letting things go quiet for a
time.
They certainly themselves seem to be lacking the very kind of
self-awareness they decry the glaring lack of in the rest of us
here, so vested in the superiority of their own path do one and
all seem…or maybe it's explainable by the way immune systems
globally respond to external threats, that results in that sense
of verisimilitude.
And I have to confess to really liking these shake-ups of our
otherwise too-quiet enclave, when the timing suits me. As Justin
noted, our own avatars here have been relegated to mostly
sheathed, rusting swords and "Hey, howzit?" kind of exchanges…
as is the wont of fat, lazy, establishment types
everywhere…innit?
We've set the bar for who can and cannot be here, based on
orthodoxy to ideas we've grown comfortable with, to the point we
no longer question or indeed even examine…but the
unfalsifiability of much of what we have considered here makes
certain positions unassailable and thus seemingly
unchallengeable as well.
Sadly.
I personally do not agree with many of this current avatar,
Joanna's, conclusions… but I'm nonetheless quite glad she's
putting them out there for my consideration, striking sparks in
the process and making me question my own assumptions and trace
them back to the observations and experiences from which they
arose…and to look again.
Because I KNOW that I cannot have any conclusions (but one) that
are not either the results of having drawn a line in the sand
and just stopped looking - or workaday hubris. I'm not qualified
to do more than just be the leaf on the wind that experience
demonstrates I am - and I need to be constantly reminded of that
because it is the conduit that keeps me tethered to my source.
In awareness.
….
I wrote the above all before I came back into the group to see
Joanna's post in the Cords thread:
--- Quote from: Joanna link ---
>
> Now I'm thinking that maybe the reason gurus like Ramana or
Nis got cancers was because they had access to "the Mind" (as
Frits calls is, although I don't think he sees the difference
between mind and Mind himself if he thinks the Mind can be
manipulated), but their subconscious minds weren't purified
enough.
>
> And they had that access because they were serious meditators.
>
> The Mind is the Creator but it creates what's in front of its
"eyes" without differentiating between "this I want, and this I
don't want".
>
> Access to the Mind combined with lots of bs in the
subconscious mind turns one into a monkey with a razor, so to
speak.
>
> And for the purification of the subconscious mind befriending
every feeling is a must. More that befriending - one has to
merge with them. That's more important than trying to figure out
the reason behind the feeling.
>
> That's how I see it. Today.
>
--- End Quote ---
I love this so much…it hits me exactly where I am, like you took
aim at my heart.
One can easily get lost in the mind…I see it in my clients and
people I observe and interact with every day…and all are further
reflections of what's going on for me, for sure. The purest
explanation …ie., the one that resonates loudest here … is that
the world and all within it is nothing less than a mirror of
this one mind. It may also be a whole lot more, but I'm unable
for practical reasons to really verify that beyond the level of
appearances.
So, as you said, Joanna, Nis and Ramana getting cancer seems
more a byproduct of having discovered the scalpel of mind and
using it to conduct spiritual bypass surgery on
themselves…thereby leaving meatspace hanging to rot while they
jetted off into the larger mindspace, which is things as seen
from the third eye.
Such a mind-first (ie., Jedesque) view of things sees it as
no-matter. Meatspace is merely the byproduct of ego-tainted
awareness and who cares, right? It says "meh" to the reflection
in the mirror, sees nought out of place and does nothing to try
and intervene in dream processes already in play, lest they get
re-stuck to the tar-baby and dragged back into the mirror.
The stuckness is what happens when the effect is mistaken for
the cause, ie., when the body and its world is seen as primary
and the mind within which it all plays out as secondary…the
evolutionary byproduct of (say) neurological complexity that
became self-aware.
Whereas the less fearful / more assertive, creative, interactive
and immersive types seem keen to stick fingers of varying
degrees of consciousness directly BACKWARDS into the stream they
see reflected in that same mirror and infatuate themselves with
the eddies and other effects on the flow they see reflected
therein…some get scared and retreat backwards into the mirror,
while others lean deeper and deeper inwards…
Or so it seems here.

I'd say that their job was to focus on the disembodied spirit.
Our job today is to invite body to the enlightenment party.
Times change, consciousness evolves and so the teaching has to
evolve too.

Which mirrors the pattern of actual existence here, every person
I know whom I have passed on Jed's books to has rejected them,
from artists to attorneys (broad spectrum) total rejection. Save
one artist friend who after knowing me since college, 30+ years,
couldn't wrap his head around what had shifted so dramatically
in "my life" since 2015. He asked and I discussed with him at
length the Understanding and the Perennial Wisdom, I sent him
Damnedest in 2017, a lifelong Mormon He rejected Jed's teachings
in total 5 years back but still wanted an answer to his burning
question "what happened to Steve?"
He started spending more time here in my town, then he rented a
studio space a few doors down and moved here for the summer
2018, this is a 63 year old man who had dramatic evidence to the
massive shift in my existence but felt the explanation I was
giving him to be pure BS. He decided to do his own detective
work. So I started him on lighter eastern fare, Ekhart Tolle,
Byron Katy, Thich Nat Han, Adyashanti. All the stuff I read
before finding Jed's books, He'd listen during the day while
painting and we would then discuss all night over billiards, all
summer long. After years of this non-dual fodder he is now a
devout Non Dual believer and has not been to the Mormon church
in two years much to his wife's chagrin, (she's not a fan of
sklato) and yet...
He still cannot wrap his head around Jed's hard core teaching
of; everything you believe is a lie, your mind is not your
friend, it is an usurper and everything you've accepted as truth
is exactly the opposite of such, which consequently is exactly
what blocks your path of finding actual truth and the only way
to get to the bottom of existence is to throw it all out, self
included. I mean really!
Imagine you've finally got up the courage to put your parachute
on, step to the open doorway of the plane, prepare to jump and
the Instructor standing next to you says "sorry, you can't use
that parachute my friend, you have to jump without it," How many
people do you know that would take off the 'chute and then fling
themselves into space? I only know a couple and they reside here
in the Kave.
It's not that we're inhospitable here, it's that the
teaching/Understanding we've had thrust upon us is inhospitable,
(none of us had a clue what was coming when we landed at Jed's)
no "body" wants this and certainly it's the last thing the mind
desires, downgraded to "useful tool?' forgetaboutit! None of us
signed up for being absolutely wrong about everything and
watching ourselves writhe in agony over the destruction of all
our cherished beliefs, who would? And so, my good friend goes
back to his seat on the plane, takes out his well worn copy of
"The Power of Now" and thanks his lucky stars he can live in the
dream much better than his fellow Mormons because of his hard
earned non-dual understanding.
So when the uninitiated show up here, we are cordial but we try
to take their parachute, because that's what this place is all
about. We understand where they are because we once were there
too but what we cannot do is pull punches when they step on
their soap box of "enlightened knowledge" and begin to
pontificate... “sorry Jack, you're getting knocked the fvck out"
Because there can be no dilettantes in here, this space, by
design, is set up to destroy the unreal. Who's ready to destroy
their world? To really be Done? Not many, as evidenced, not by
our lack of hospitality but by the Teaching's lack of
flexibility. This isn't about opinions, it's about the end of
you, who's ready for that? Very few indeed.

Yes, I agree. That is why I came here, got angry and left, came
back again, got angry and left again, and eventually came back
again. This place is relentless and if you want to wake up you
need a place that is relentless. And so we are relentless. If
you can't take it, you're not ready to wake up... yet.

Just big on bringing things out of the realm of vague and
ethereal. For example things I do for the body are sauna 4-5
times a week, fairly locked in diet, foundation training/yoga
and weight lifting 5-6 days per week, plenty of supplement and
vitamin. I get about 20 to 25,000 steps in with my work. Thats
like 10 - 15 miles and burn about 5000 calories a day. Practice
deep breathing with primary focus being through the nose for
regulation. I'm all about holistic health and life in balance.
Very proprioceptive. Could probably compete in amature
bodybuilding at this stage if I wanted to and thats not braging
its just simply because i've lived with the body as temple
mindset for the better part of the last 10 - 20 years.
Thought maybe you could give me a similar example of how people
"bring the body to the enlightenment party" without having to
read an entire book. I was just looking for a quick explanation
in your words or something you do to bring that about.
Thanks

You sure the mind knows what the body needs?
Are you taking care of it because you're afraid of getting sick
and dying or because you love yourself?
Embodiment happens when you stop seeing and treating the body as
"just a vehicle" or "just an illusion".

A: If you still have questions, you're not "done". Don't try to
convince me otherwise, because that would be ego and further
proof that you're not "done". You're frustrated? That's ego.
Told you, not "done". You're leaving? Oh, not ready for harsh
Truth, are you? Maybe next life.
It's all mind. Except for what I'M saying. That's clarity.
Because I'm "done". Simple logic.
I think humility might not be enough, I'm gonna need lobotomy to
get enlightened. :D

I think I've said enough. But I can recommend the book that
covers this topic perfectly IMO. Amoda Maa - "Embodied
enlightenment"

Not actually sure where you get any of that out of what I wrote
but here goes...
"Am I sure the mind knows what the body needs?"
Well I don't typically distinguish mind from body. For example,
energy if not expended through physical activity tends to get
stored in the mind through mental rumination. Likewise, people
who are stuck in their head often times don't (think) they have
energy to go be active. Its not a thinking matter. Its a matter
of listening to what the body needs. If you're paying attention
and not being distracted, you know when you need rest, get some
activity, to stretch certain areas, when and what to eat ect ect
... And "the proof is in the pudding" as they say.
"Am I taking care of my body/mind because I'm afraid of dying or
because I love myself?"
I love myself deeply. Like I said, I follow the body as temple
philosophy. People who know me personally would probably tell
you Im a bit vain and Im okay with that.
"Embodiment happens when you stop seeing and treating the body
as "just a vehicle" or "just an illusion".
Okay. Sounds good so...Please answer the original question if
you dont mind.
What do you do specifically to "bring the body to the
enlightenment party" Thanks.
