       IMHO, education in a rational society would be continuous from
       birth until death.  Development and nourishment of its members
       is the purpose of a society (Again IMHO). To restrict knowledge
       is self defeating to a society.  And, as we know, most of the
       societies in our reality sell knowledge.
       And, education should encompass the whole individual,
       physically, mentally, and spiritually.  "To be all that one can
       be".
       Each individual would have mentors and, as competence
       progresses, mentees.  I see no need to force anyone into a seat
       for hours (developing numbuttitis) and mandate a pace of
       learning.
       Decades ago, I saw DARPA (US Military funding) projects creating
       software games which promoted learning through curiosity.  I
       thought: Wow :o  They are finally going to start education in a
       sensible manner.  Wrong. :-\
       I see education much like the American Indian before their
       societies were extinguished.  The elders educated and interfaced
       with the children while the rest of the tribe got on with
       survival and their own passions (Scalping paleface ;D).
       Mentors would prod mentees toward progress, and provide status
       to education overseers.  Some individuals may require special
       attention but goals should always be toward productive
       functioning within the society.

       Well, nothing to argue with here, mate. As written in A Course
       in Miracles, “everybody is teaching and teaching all of the
       time”. Obversely it’s the same: we never stop learning.
       I’m inferring from your post that you advocate a more
       consciously structured curriculum and perhaps more formal (or at
       least more fully integrated) educational institutions, that
       serve in equal parts the needs of the individual to live their
       most fulsome life and the needs of society to have citizens who
       both carry its torch while pushing its boundaries.
       ...So, what does that look like in practical terms?
