I’m so appreciative of j(‘s evolving POV, is the dreamstate
stuff... ie., “How can ‘the understanding’ lead to a better
integrated, well-adjusted existence HERE, in the only place
where ‘not two’ seems like something more?”

I'll grab Douglas Adams work on Audible after I get through the
books I've got stacked up, I can only read in spurts but I can
listen to something like that while painting, listened to the
first one but that's it Beeblebrocks... (no idea how thats
spelled!).
I'm interested in the meatspace version of this as well, lord
knows we've kinda rehashed the versions of Nothingness to the
point of.. well, Nothingness. I think from here, re-engagement
could be a fascinating place for this discussion to go.
Certainly the most recent state of affairs over here...

Yeah, I know that bit about "All that is", it's just so
difficult to talk about our combined egoic separation from Truth
without somehow drawing a line between the Bullshit and the Real
even though there is no separation whatsoever, it's all what is,
even my lame efforts to separate it without separating it :D

But before we even jump into that discussion it would be
diligent to address the desire to even do so. After having a
melt down the trajectory usually is trending in the opposite
direction towards a state of apathy and despair. It takes a
certain level of energy to even will yourself back towards
what's considered a "normal life," that stage of getting your
feet under you again. Then it takes a whole new level of energy
to get to where you not only want to re engage but to do so with
purpose. Im not here to waste time or just count the days. I'm
here to live a life worth living. Anything worth doing is worth
doing well. That's just who I am, at my core. It's an internal
fire that I that I didn't light. A natural competitor. I dont
know that that's the case for everyone. Its not something that
can be faked. Its something you have to ask yourself every day.
What are you doing here and why? It's a question worth asking
before even getting started.

What I was thinking is that it makes sense to give an honest
self assessment of your desire to re engage. It seems to me that
there are different levels of living. I mean, you have folks who
have no desire to live whatsoever. You have those who are merely
surviving. You have people who are just barely getting by. You
have people who are just going through the motions. You've got
people living their lives for others such as their families.
You've got those who are just doing what they think they're
supposed to do and have never really asked the questions. Those
who are really engaged and striving for a good life. Youve got
people living with a sense of urgency. You've got people living
with purpose. You've got people who dominate and succeed at
everything. You've got those that take full responsibility for
their lives.
"How does it need to be qualified in order to proceed?" That's
the question for the individual to answer. For many it doesn't
need to qualify and it proceeds in a very mediocre fashion. Mere
existence is easy and a given for the time being. It's a gift
and it can be appreciated or squandered just the same.
You dont have to do this "life" thing...so it makes sense to
ask... what are you doing here and why?
Seems like as good a place to start as any...

That's a good start... It shouldn't be understated that most
people don't do this and are living on a sort of auto pilot.
When the understanding reveals that it's all made up, one of two
things usually comes from that. I've noticed people will either
abandon all purpose, sit around in a destructive mode, tearing
down anything or anyone. Or they become creative. It becomes
empowering in a sense. A vehicle forward rather than another
limiting factor. Rather than setting up camp there they enjoy
that process and it sets them free.
It's an evolving question. For me I ask myself every day. What
am I doing here and why? No one else decides that for you.
Unless of course you allow it or you didn't bother to decide
that for yourself.

I'm not sure that this thread will go very far. After all it's
going to take more than kicking the tires. Based on the writings
around here the tank may be empty and the motor may be on it
last leg. Nothing wrong with that. Simple existence is as valid
a way of "living" as any. In fact today I'm willing to allow
that for myself today coming off a long work week. But just
being is easy and generally the foundation from which I build,
not where I stay. Also why I didn't get too excited about doing
the radio show. I'm not sure that this is something that you
guys are that interested in. Being content just having the winds
blow you to and fro requires nothing. It's a nice reset from
time to time just not a place that I stay. Deciding to live a
life of purpose requires a little something more. Mastering the
art of the bunt is fine and dandy unless you enjoy hitting home
runs.

Just got to this, been traveling...
So, I am excited by this topic because honestly since the vessel
crashed to the ground and all that was left was a very small and
far away whimpering sound, seemingly made by whatever shredded
and terrified bits of ego were still standing, it's been a very
ragged but interesting road back into basic existence, 6 months
of basically staring blankly into space and then a slow
re-integration, carefully not-choosing where and when to engage,
which I deem a choice but not from thought or mind (which ruled
the prior engagement with the world) but from a "feel" for whats
happening, a release to something other than mind making the
choices in this new and very different (but the same) reality.
This has been so extraordinarily different a way to exist that I
find myself occasionally at a loss, almost wishing mind would
take over and run with things like it used to...Amlost,
whoa... see that? I wanted to type "Almost" again but look what
I typed instead "Am-lost" and so, this is how life is, little
things like that catch the attention and have value well beyond
that of a seemingly ordinary typo...
But this is so beautifully different and the world pulls sooo
hard at what's still here, that I'm very ready to explore the
options for what comes "after". As you've probably noticed
there's not much written about that and I'm sure the reason is
it's pretty much unexplored territory, there will be a lot of
bush-whacking, much better to have several people you trust
along for the ride, to hand the machete to for a well deserved
break in the non-action.
Not easy, words are frienemies here, every one a sh!tty
substitute for the true sense or feeling of things.
I like this challenge gentlemen.
PS. I'm sure you've noticed Snips took his words and went home,
honest feedback is excruciatingly hard on the ego and even more
difficult to come by! It's also extremely addicting to a
non-entity that at least understands intellectually that it is a
non-entity. He'll be back when he realizes no one out there
understands him any better than we do and he's always welcome in
this kitchen as long as he can stand the heat. ;)

Nice Steve! I would have kinda gathered as much just from our
prior discussions, that it's kind of a non intellectual type of
re engagement for you. The non choice is a choice but it's a
choice for more of a smooth sailing rather than setting the
sails for any sort of particular destination. I'm granted this
on occasion, what I refer to as the flow state, not being driven
by too much desire or resistance on way or the other. I would
guess that you're kind of afforded this by your standing in
life, having raised your children, being financially stable ect.
Good for you man. That's ultimately where I would like to be.
Jimmy Buffett playing somewhere in the background.
Not quite there yet. Still a family to raise. Decisions to make.
No real hesitation in making them. Things to get done but from a
whole new understanding and responsibility towards it all.
Although I can relate to the going on feeling thing. Most of my
decisions are made intuitively and with less thought and
deliberation. Mostly no second guessing and less fixed
positions. Realizing that everyone is right from where they are.

Yes and no, yes I am ready to let go of most of the things that
are vestiges of a bygone era called "me" but I am still so
energized by this and I have energy still to expend, sorting out
how that is done is a large part of the game now.
No I can't see myself sipping margarita's on the beach for more
than a week and maybe not even that long... But at the moment,
with 2 feet of snow all around, that seems like the perfect
option. ;)
I'll post some thoughts on all this when I get a little more
time...

Just a quick interjection, J: what gives you the idea I'm
content just getting tossed around by the winds of fate ...?
I'm totally not. Based on what I've come to know first-hand I
went back to University to study the human take on mental
health...I feel pretty engaged, generally - albeit with the
implicit understanding that I'm playing from a different angle
and
with different motivation than before.

It's fine either way Mike. Usually the calling card of
"enlightenment" is to not care what happens one way or the
other. Like I applauded Steve, that's generally the easy way to
float your boat. As I wrote I'm also engaged in a sense of
having a certain preference for desired outcomes. This is
usually a set up for disappointment unless you're aware that you
take action for the sake of itself and with an understanding
that your in control of your effort rather than the outcome. But
if you wanted to share a bit about this different angle and new
motivation I would be interested and it would lend to a better
understanding.
