UG, JB and Jed

Do any of you know of a way to marry the teachings of Jed
McKenna (work very hard to unrealized all untruths) with U.G.
Krishnamurti (give up all seeking of enlightenment) and J.B.
Peterson (everything has profound meaning; there is a spiral of
ultimate meaning with infinite depth around which everything
revolves)?

:o :o :o
I cannot believe I'm seeing this question, because yes: as a
matter of fact I do and am working on that right now.
To me, they dovetail beautifully and am very glad to discuss
this with you....but am off to work right now.
...Further! ;D
[EDIT: I also can't believe how well this fits with my 'Dorothy
Dixer' comment to Fritz] :o

C'mon Mike, did you really have to create a shill to come in
here and ask yourself some questions? ::)

I'd love to hear your thoughts about this Mike (or Plato or
anyone else). I have my own theories about why they work well
together, and why either one of them often feels insufficient on
their own, but I find it hard to really put into words.
Hi Plato, my apologies for not introducing myself on this forum.
I had posted here once before over a year ago, but forgot my
account name.
But you have no right to speak on this matter anyway Plato,
since it was you who popularized the Socratic dialogue.

A little inside joke based on current events in here that you
will probably be able to figure out if you're not B who I'm
still not convinced isn't playing a little joke of his own...
That being said this is an interesting topic, one that I am sure
we have all had to come to grips with at some time or another in
this little sojourn we seem to be on. For my part I can state in
the preamble to whatever drivel I'll end up adding to this
thread, that it literally doesn't matter, looking to another's
utterances for your own answers is 180 degrees in the wrong
direction if one is looking to see through the self and Maya's
production of "Human Existence".
Doesn't mean that these men and their work on the subject are
not sign posts to those stuck in inquiry.
Which is probably what each one of those characters would tell
you if you asked such a question. A big turn in the right
direction here was the moment I realized that "it" (the
Understanding) would not come to "me" through another's
utterances, no matter how beautiful or terrible or accurate. The
realization that it was only through "me" that clarity would
ensue (little did I realize that by moving through me, I was
also destroying the concept of me) which was the beginning of
the end of what had up to that point constituted "me".
But if we are to play the game of "how do you reconcile these
differing attitudes toward the Perennial Wisdom?" I do have some
things to add to that as well and when I get a little time I
will try to do so...

Browsing the Fritz identity interrogation thread and the prior
discussion that lightly touched upon the overlap between
'enlightenment' in the Jed sense, nihilism and depression, which
ties into motivation, which brings us back to meaning and Jordan
Petersons worldview, was actually what triggered this question
yesterday.
Going into your 'outside authority' idea, I do not see much
difference between gathering information from a book or someone
else as opposed to 'figuring it out yourself.' These people are
merely representations of data points, as you said. Besides
that, to even have this discussion, or 'figure out the truth
yourself', you, or anyone, had to learn words, concepts, logic
and ideas from outside authorities, from within which
constructed fictional framework one can then say: 'see, I
figured it all out myself: I am consciousness!'
I'd love to hear more thoughts on the topic of ultimate Truth
versus ultimate Meaning and Trying versus Letting go of trying
if you have the time.

Eh, well, no.
While your logic totally adds up to what would seem the obvious
empirical model for understanding "The Understanding" it is in
actuality the endless road to perpetual seeking. The problem
here is that the answer is totally counter-intuitive, and has
nothing to do with "thinking" in fact "thinking" is what blocks
you from the Understanding. One finds that "Figuring it out for
yourself" isn't even possible and lastly that the "words,
concepts, logic and ideas from outside "authorities"" and even
inside authorities, are the exact thing you must toss out the
window if you are to possibly experience "the Understanding".
In other words, you can't experience the mind-shattering
ALL/NOTHING from within a small fictional framework constructed
with words and concepts although most think thats exactly what
they've done. It's honestly like thinking you can get a good
look at the Sun by staring at it, all that happens is you go
blind to the reality that you're fooling yourself once again.
There is obviously much to be said on this subject and none of
it will get one there but that doesn't stop us from, like I
said, sending up an awful bunch of drivel trying to express the
inexpressible.

I understand all that, I read the Jed books several times, I get
the 'language games' and 'outside authority' traps and all that.
But I am not here to discuss that and I think we are getting
side-tracked (probably partly by my fault).
If you want to get into my initial topic of discussion that
would be great, if not then that is also fine but let's do that
in a different thread.
Side note (damn me!): you talk about the all-shattering
everything/nothing, which sounds a lot like an experience of
unity-consciousness, which is not enlightenment but Makyo
according to Jed.

Yeah, thats the ALL side of the equation or U/C, most people
have that and think "I'm done!" because, well it's the ALL, I
know I did, but when it went away I was clear that it wasn't
"it", at least after reading Jed. It's the Nothing side that
creates abiding awareness, probably because while the U/C event
is a complete validation of the ultimate worth of the individual
self as seen by the person experiencing it (not from the ALL's
perspective in my experience) The Nothing side obliterates the
self which here completely shifted permanently the
interpretation of this "reality" and any perceived "I"
experiencing it.
That sounds kinda matter of fact as I read it and it is but it
doesn't express the absolutes of LOVE and HORROR experienced at
both ends of this spectrum which isn't.
