DC3 Questions.

I just flew my MAAM DC3 on flight UAL13186 KSLC to KSAN.
The scheduled flight time is 2:18 on the website, FSX says it
takes 3:26 and it actually took my 4:36 (although I taxied @
KSLC for over 10 minutes).
Fuel use was estimated by FSX @ 2577 lbs, my new panel that Wim
pointed me to says I used 3002 lbs, but when I took the starting
fuel minus ending fuel I get 1930 lbs.
Which numbers should I use?
I'm trying to fly using proper power settings.

According to fltplan.com, which many flight departments use for
flight planning, a DC-3 today should have a flight time of 3+36.
I would have added 10 minutes to that for taxi and should have
posted 3+46, so if the HAG schedule shows less we probably need
to review that. I usually use 160 kts for cruise in the DC3.
I've always used the power settings provided and put the mixture
in autolean. I'll defer to Wim as to whether the provided power
settings are correct.

Interesting...
haven't done that flight yet. I would probably fly 203deg to ILC
Wilson Creek VOR, then to LAS Las Vegas VOR. Both have 190 Nm
range, so no problem getting the signal in time.
Crossing LAS maintain backcourse 193deg outbound, until MZB
Mission Creek VOR comes in range (only 60Nm range for that
station).
The above leads to 550 Nm enroute. My own invented rule says
1.5Nm/gallon. About 360 gallons enroute should do the trick
(about 2160 lbs). Load 400 gallons just in case...
So 1930lbs would be possible if you flew a more direct route, or
had some wind advantage.
Some pretty high terrain over there. Cruise alt needs to be
8000-9000 at least, so one might get avg 160 kts GS ? That could
get you there in about 3:30hrs.
So IMO you only flew 3:36h (something went wrong crossing the
time zone ?). At an average fuel burn of 95-100 GPH that would
give around 2100 lbs as well.
Conclusion: good flight time, good fuel burn. Well done.
OTOH the flight time in our schedule is not correct, way too
short.
Ever considered using kACARS ?
Wim
