Different AI

Tried something different with my AI. I replaced the default
DeHavilland DHC-8-100 AI with a DC-6B/CB-16 in NEA colors from
Gregg Pepper at California Classics. It doesn't seem to slow
down the system, but I imagine an airport full of these might
slow things down a bunch. Here's how I did it.
I opened up the aircraft.cfg file for both the DH_dash8_100 and
the DC-6 using notepad, then arranged them on my screen side by
side (see, I'm easily confused). I copied the [fltsim.0] section
in the DC-6 and pasted it after itself to create a second
airplane. I changed the title to [fltsim.1].
In the DH8 aircraft.cfg file I copied the line title=de
Havilland Dash 8-100 Paint1 and pasted it in place of
title=Douglas DC-6B Northeast Air Lines. Back in the DH-8 file I
added NA after the line title=de Havilland Dash 8-100 Paint1.
The result: In the DH-8 file, the NA means "No AI" to the
program. When the program goes looking for the DH_Dash8_100
Paint 1 it will find it in the DC-6 file. So, as far as
Flightsim is concerned, the DC-6 is the DH-8 paint1! You can do
this for any airplane in your hangar. Unlike regular AI though,
the regular planes are much more detailed and can eventually
have an adverse affect on frame rates, so you should probably
limit the number of regular planes you use to replace default
AI.

David,
I use the Classic AI Airliner package at
HTML http://www.calclassic.com/AIAircraft.htm
. It takes a little
work to get all of it in and running but well worth it! Right
now I have this in my FS9 setup and am working on getting it
into FSX.
I also put together a custom 80's AI traffic package that I use
from time to time. I adjusted the flight plans to use XDEN
(ficticious ICAO for Stapleton) instead of KDEN (DIA) with the
Stapleton scenery also at CalClassics.
Here is a screenshot from the CalClassic AI package.

Perhaps you could post how to do this for FSX. Thanks

Oh yeah, I got a bunch of AI from CalClassic AI files. I just
think the DC-6/DC-4 types are lacking in good detail. The
Connies look good though! Nice pics by the way. I have no idea
how to do this in FSX I'm afraid.

I was able to move the AI over to FSX last night but only had a
few minutes to play. I need to do some more testing and will
write up a step-by-step on how I did it.

FYI, an updated version of the Propliner AI pack is now
available.
HTML http://www.calclassic.com/AIAircraft.htm
.
I'll work up FSX conversion steps as I update my AI with these
new files.
This update adds new AI models including a much improved DC-3
model and more airlines to the pack.

OK folks, here is the link to my tutorial on converting the
CalClassics Propliner AI package to FSX. Please let me know if
you have any issues or questions regarding my method.
Enjoy!

Trevor:
WOW...you put a lot of work into this. THANK YOU!
I don't know if I'm smart enough to make it all work, but I'll
give it a try when I get the courage.
Thanks again for all your work on this...much appreciated!
