       In another order of things, since the attacks of September 11,
       2001, the main threat that appears in all defense strategies,
       both of the United States and its allied countries inside and
       outside NATO , is violent extremism classified as terrorist. .
       To confront it, NATO launched various military initiatives. The
       two most notable are Operation Sea Guardian ,consisting of
       patrolling the international waters of the Mediterranean and
       monitoring the Strait of Gibraltar through a maritime force made
       up of frigates, submarines and high-altitude patrol vessels, as
       well as maritime patrol aircraft with logistical support from
       the bases of Rota and Cartagena; This is a mission focused on
       deterring threats and possible terrorist attacks.
       And a second operation is the so-called Permanent Armed Phone

       of NATO.in the Mediterranean and the
       North Atlantic, composed of land and maritime Rapid Response
       Forces. The latter has as its base of operations the Black Sea,
       the southern corridor of the Strait of Hormuz, the Suez Canal
       and the coasts of Somalia, it is made up of a frigate, a mine
       countership and another logistical support ship and seeks to
       provide military security to the merchant ships of the allied
       countries. Both missions, although not made explicit, have a
       collateral component to the fight against terrorism: detecting

       they are intercepted before reaching the countries on the
       northern shore of the Mediterranean.

       It must be remembered that NATO has always been under US
       military command and has never transferred its power to Europe.
       It is a military bloc equipped with the most powerful arsenal of
       weapons on the planet, including nuclear bombs in the hands of
       three of its members: the United States, United Kingdom and
       France.
