Student Portal ??

Hey, if anyone can help me out, I have been off the net for a
couple of weeks and suddenly I don't recognize the student
portal at all, it is taking me into a page that has my
information on it but seems to be aimed entirely at new
applicants.
What happened to the VLE? Did it move somewhere else?
And about registration-I am guessing it is online again this
year, did it open up yet? Will it be on the student portal?
These are probably sort of dumb questions, but if anyone can
help me out I would really appreciate it!

Hey,
The student portal has gone bananas.
Last Thursday I realised I couldnt log in, it was as though it
didnt recognise my username. I followed the instructions about
deleting cookies etc... no joy. Then I tried to reset my
password, but it would not recognise my username/srn/dob
combination. Finally I just waited til yesterday to address it.
So, tried to report the problem. Followed the link they gave me
and:
1: They want current students to report the problem via the
portal - but I cant log into the portal!!
2: Tried to log it using the non registered student webform -
but it recognises my email address and tells me to log in - but
I cant log into the portal!!
3: Email the enquires email address - returns with a 'email
address closed'.
Finally I emailed the webmaster email address. This did work. I
received an email back from one of the 'no reply' addresses
saying my issue had been escalated to technical support and for
future reference to not mail webmaster but to use my current
student number and email address to use the online form to
report a problem and gave me the same link that led me to the
circularity above!
A short time later I was sent a new password. I was able to log
in. But my VLE content was gone. Nothing. So I registered that
as a problem on the Ask a Question link. Checked a short time
later and guess what? Yeah, I cant log into the portal again. SO
again I have emailed the webmaster email address.
Whats really doing my head in is the fact that I had just begin
to use the student email account, but when I cant log into the
portal - I cant get to the email address!! That and the circular
nature of trying to report an issue and repeated replies coming
from 'no reply' email addresses so you can never actually
respond that they link they send you is useless!! I have not yet
tried to phone as an international call would cost me a lot.
If they are doing work on the portal that is fine but couldnt
they tell people? Its ridiculous that we are just left banging
our heads wondering how to resolve it!!!
I am seriously frustrated now. If anyone has had any better
success than me at resolving this issue Id be happy to hear it.

Hello Plato, Casey, and all:
Well, for what it's worth, I've been unable to log in to the VLE
for a couple of weeks. I tried to complain online to London, but
that also took me to a New Student Registration page. Seems like
they are doing work on the site as well as altering our account
info. Not sure why there has been no warning about this, but,
well, that's the situation. Oh well. How's the weather in your
corner of the globe?
In the meantime, I have enjoyed reading the brief note on
Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics in Lear's intro book on
Aristotle: The Desire to Understand.
I wonder, how many of you out there read into to some of the
readings for the Ethics II (Modern) module in order to work on
the Ethics I (Historical) exam? Seems like they are more related
than one would guess just by the review materials. Manuel?
You're an expert on this topic, right?!

So yesterday afternoon they reset my password again for the
student portal and I was able to log in, and my VLE content had
reappeared (they sent an email saying I had to follow some links
to make it appear but I didnt have to).
And then this morning I tried to log in again, and guess what?
Access gone again.
So, AGAIN I have emailed the webmaster email address!!
The spurious nature of receiving responses from email addresses
that you cannot reply to means that you have no continuity on
the issue. I think this time I will just leave it alone until I
receive an email telling me to do my continuing registration.
Unfortunately that means no access to the student portal,
including study guides, the forum, the online library etc....

Thanks for the update, Plato. Based on your experience, I think
I'll just wait and not worry too much about VLE. I wonder if
UoL's webmaster and java script slinger are taking time off to
watch the London Olympics? --Ron

Yeah so it looks like I have uncovered some software issues with
the Portal, I am not the only one affected but perhaps I am the
loudest ;)
Still no access but this time I have emails from actual
individuals (not from no reply email addresses) giving me
updates.
Hopefully this will sort it for everyone.

Hey Plato, Casey, and all:
I received an email from London informing me that continuing
registration was available online. There were two messages,
actually, one giving me my old user name and a second giving me
a temporary password, which happened to be my actual, old
password. Uh, not the coolest thing to do on UoL's part,
because, who knows, this is unencrypted text, and I might use
that password for my online banking and trivial crap like that.
Oh well. Anyway, I was able to get back onto the VLE, after
agreeing to umpteen pages of terms of use, and changing to a new
password. Everything's basically the same, what didn't work
before still doesn't, and I wasn't able to discern how to
register for next year. Thanks & hope your break from hard
studies is doing well. --Ron

Ron - you should email and tell them your issues because they
will only listen if enough people make noise.
Theyve been doing the same to me too sending me unencrypted
emails with my password.
Today they sent me yet another password, I logged in, discovered
the VLE is still gone (ie, the forum etc..), emailed again (at
this stage I email one of 2 people who responded to me, and
usually if I mail one, the other answers!), and was told that
the VLE is not available until I complete Continuing
Registration and pay fees?!?!?!?
Was anyone else aware that access to the VLE is removed between
exams and continuing registration in this way? It seems bizarre
in the extreme as I am still a student of the university! I
guess this means it will be removed after the final exams which
answers a question I asked before about using the UoL email
address - ie, not to because I will lose access.
They are still not sure that the access issues have been fixed.
I dont know if anyone else is contacting them.
Good luck with continuing registration people.

Did anyone else get the e-mail inviting them to the new program?
It had a link to confirm transfer, which took one to a
trouble-shooting page...I got an e-mail back telling me that
transfer would be avaible as soon as the software was up, and to
reply to that message with any further questions; and of course
my questions got kicked back as undeliverable...
I am a little confused about the registration, and I really hope
that they get this straight very soon because I will be without
internet acsess for a long time, starting in about three
weeks...
