       AND NELSON MANDELA DIES AT 95

       President,jacob Zuma announce on Thursday the passing on of the
       most revered statesman on the black continent , Nelson Mandela.
       The first president of post-apartheid South Africa died in cape
       Town at the age of 95 after a protracted battling with what
       doctors diagnosed as lung infection.  In his formal announcement
       of Mandela's passage, president Zuma declared: ¡°He is now
       resting. He is now at peace. Our nation has lost its greatest
       son. Our people have lost a father.¡± According to Zuma, who
       directed that all flags in south Africa be flown at half-staff,
       the late mandela will be accorded a state funeral. He said:
       ¡°What made Nelson Mandela great was precisely what made him
       human. We saw in him what we seek in ourselves¡± The late
       Mandela who spent 27yrs in detention, include 18 yrs in Robben
       Island prison for his anti-apartheid stance, regained freedom on
       February 11,1990, was elected South Africa's first black
       president in 1994 and served a five year single term that ended
       in 1999, before handing over power to Thabo Mbeki. His refusal
       to go for a second term as president, has since become a
       reference point on the African continent where sight-tight
       leaders like Robert Mugabe of Zimabwe have are being advised to
       e m a l a t e. ¡°The Mandela option.¡± Adiu great Madiba.
