Bucs sign Sterling Moore

Cowboy-ccaneers? Buccan-oys? After inking deals with Chris Conte
and Henry Melton, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers appeared to be just
going after former Chicago Bears players who played under Lovie
Smith when he was their head coach. But, there was a much
clearer association hiding right under our collective noses,
especially after the Bucs’ latest signing.
Earlier today, cornerback Sterling Moore became the third former
Cowboys player to jump ship to Tampa Bay, joining Melton and
Bruce Carter. And this is no coincidence. Under Monte Kiffin and
Rod Marinelli, these three players learned the ins and outs of
the Tampa 2, creating a seamless transition when playing for
Smith next season.
As for Moore, his contract is only one year and worth a max
value of $1.525 million, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. At
25 years old, Sterling is young, but he’s also promising. While
there is a possibility that he could become a starter in the
near future, Moore will offer immediate cornerback depth. Last
season, injuries in the secondary forced Lovie to turn to C.J.
Wilson, Isaiah Frey, Crezdon Butler and Brandon Dixon, who were
all mediocre at best.
After grabbing Conte and Moore while re-signing Major Wright and
Bradley McDougald, Smith is making sure the Buccaneers don’t
have a repeat performance of 2014. Smart move.
