14 years. It had a great run and it has lasted longer than any
other TV I've had. All the others have crapped out around the
4-6 mark.

Holy sh*t!!!! My TV came on!!!! It only took 23.5 hours to do
so. Excuse me, I have some serious TV watching that needs to get
done before it signs off once and for
all.............................................

This reminds me of the Friends episode where Joey and Chandler
got free p Ron on their TV and they never wanted to turn it off
in fear it would never come back.

Definitely sounds like that... talk about an issue that's no
longer with us (well, I guess it would be wifi now).
I have to say, I've been thinking about Friends because I was
reminded about that big old chair that Joey basically lived in.
I keep thinking about it because there's this ridiculously
comfortable leather chair that I've had my eye on for years, but
I fear if I got it, it would be the only furniture in my house
and I would wind up living in it, and deteriorating, because
it's so comfortable I'd never want to get up. Sometimes things
can be too perfect.
Anyway, back to the actual POINT of the thread:
14 years for a TV is an amazing run. Though 14 years... was it
an old tube TV?

Yeah. It's not a one of those Flat Screens. When I bought this
particular TV, they didn't even have Flat Screens yet. Well,
maybe they did, but they were probably in the 5k range. But I
don't remember seeing them on the floor at Circuit City, which
is where I bought it from.

I got my first flat-screen in 2002 or 2003... because I didn't
want to lug my stupid CRT TV/VCR combo up and down the stairs
every semester at college. I was the first in my dorm to have
that. And it lasted me a long time. Better than that though is
the machine I got to go with it: a Region Zero VHS/DVD recorder
that I still have and STILL WORKS!
My current TV is the first one I've had since that college TV,
and while I don't have the funds yet, I keep salivating at those
gorgeous giant 4Ks with their motion smoothing and surround
sound and multiple inputs. But like that leather chair, it
might be too much awesome for my humble self.
