So suddenly I see this commercial the other day of an iPad
sitting in this JBL docking station and it picks my interest.

I so miss good sound. The only place I currently have it is in
my car. I can't wait to get my media room set up, but that's
another day and time. For now, I'm thinking this would be
perfect in my office. So my research starts. Immediately I'm hit
with the $500 price tag. Ouch. That knocks me back and makes me
think. Then I see the little sister of this bad boy. Well the
price is much better ($140), but I'm reading the sound is OK and
the hardware to hold the iPad is cheap. So never mind.
So I read this very in-depth unbiased review JBL OnBeat Xtreme
review
HTML http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/14/jbl-onbeat-xtreme-review/<br
/>from engadget.com. Excellent review and indicates what I would
expect from JBL and for $500. Still $500. Dayum. It is
beautifully designed.
Then I thought how I would use it. Most likely, only for the
office. My iPad currently resides in a nice padded swivel case
for mobility advantages. I would have to remove it from the
case, install and remove constantly. There are some great things
about the Onbeat Xtreme, that I still have it in the back of my
mind. But it would be another expensive toy. Many of the other
things I read included the thoughts about an explosion of other
blue tooth, dock type products coming out. So let's see what the
competitors come out with.
So for now I'll take a wait and see. But I'm excited about the
technology.

I love the design. Looks cool. But $500? Yikes. I'm in the same
boat of trying to look for less pricey alternatives for a Cintiq
HTML http://pennycan.createaforum.com/hardware/cintiq/.
But in the
end, you are going to get what you pay for. Having said that,
just wait a bit like you mentioned and it's bound to drop in
price, low enough to make you pull the trigger without feeling
guilty.
Is this for work office or home office? If it's for work, I'm
pretty sure you will be the bell of the ball with all your
coworkers.

Office at home.
Office at work... noise is an issue. Especially music.
I'm not even sure I'm thinking about waiting for a price drop.
I'm thinking competition in general. Design, bells and whistles,
functionality, pricing, etc. I can only imagine what Apple,
Sony, Toshiba, Samsung, LG and the sound companies like Bose
will bring to the table.
Let the games begin.
