I haven't seen this since the last episode aired on TV. I'm
still p issed off about NBC cancelling this show. It was a great
series with excellent writers and characters. If you're a fan of
Quantum Leap, you will definitely enjoy this show.

Having just watched the Pilot, I now remember why I loved this
show. Although it was exhilarating to see the episode unfold, it
was also making me angry because in the back of my mind all I
could think about is "Why was this cancelled?". The Pilot sets
up the entire series perfectly and immediately hooks you in
because you absolutely need to tune in and see the story
unfolding.
I knew this was going to be a winner when Dan (Kevin McKidd)
keeps bouncing back and forth between present day and random
moments in the past as he try's to make sense of what is going
on as he tracks the life of whoever it is that is neccessary to
save. This is where it's different from Quantum Leap. In QL, the
protagonist never has to deal with two worlds at once, but in
Journeyman, not only does Dan have to keep up with the one he is
trying to save, but he also has to save his marriage in present
day and it's much harder to do when you keep disappearing for
days on end, especially when you have a history of gambling
problems.
In this one, he has to track Neal Gaines and save him for
whatever reason. But not everything is what you think...
[move]*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPO
ILERS[/move]
...because it was more about saving Neal's Son, who
would himself go on to save a handful of lives on his own.
That story-line was just the hook to draw you in. It's the
mythology of the show that really has you wanting to see what it
all means. So when Dan runs into Livia ( Moon Bloodgood) who
apparently died in a plane crash, is now also popping up just
like Dan, you know something much bigger is at work here.
The ending of this episode was awesome when he tears up the
backyard to unearth evidence to prove to his wife Katie
(Gretchen Egolf) that he is not crazy in an effort to convince
her that what he is telling her about his time traveling
escapades is real.
It's one thing for Dan to have to juggle bouncing back and
forth, track people and save his marriage and trying to keep
people from thinking he is going crazy, but it's another thing
to have the Feds thinking he is a possible terrorist threat now
that he has disappeared mid-flight from a plane he has boarded
with Katie. He doesn't "leap" that far as he is still on a
plane, just only now it's in the 70's, where he helps a woman
give birth. The baby girl is who Dan will track throughout the
episode.
As I mentioned before, it's not all what it appears to be...
[move]*SPOILER*SPOILER*SPOILER*SPOILER*SPOILER*SPOILER*SPOILER[/
move]
...as we are meant to believe it's about reuniting the
girl, Tanna (Jessica Chastain), with her Father that she has
never met before. I won't spoil it any further and tell you
where it goes. But it was a trip to see who the Mother/Diana
Bloom on the plane was. I originally took notice of Annie
Wersching on 24, but I knew that I had seen her on something
before that but just couldn't place her face..until now. I now
have closure. I'm a fan of hers and look forward to anything
that she is in.
Livia pops up again, but refuses to clue Dan in on exactly what
is happening to him and how she is involved in their Time
Traveling escapades.
Game 3 takes place in 1989, the third game of the World
Series...the day of the San Francisco earthquake. Up till now,
Dan has never returned to the same day when jumping back in
time, that is till now. In this case, he always wakes up in the
same spot on the same day, supposedly to track Alan Pratt and
stuck to the task at hand...
[move]*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPOILERS*SPO
ILERS[/move]
...till now. In an effort to ease the pain of his
Boss/Friend Hugh Skillen (Brian Howe) who is suffering from
guilt, decides to veer off course by trying to save his sister
from dying during the earthquake. Even though he wasn't
successful, we learn exactly what Hugh took from her death and
how it saved his own life in the process.
Also, Livia comes clean with Dan, and tells him that she was a
Time Jumper long before they ever met and that the reason why
she never told him about it is that she thought that her
Traveling was over and that she had finally found her place in
time...where she was meant to be. Katie did ask Dan if he had
run into anyone from their past when traveling back in time to
which he said he hadn't so as to spare her feelings because she
and Livia were best friends at the time of her "death", who
Katie by the way was also engaged to Dan's brother Jack (Reed
Diamond).

Whatever Dan does in the past, he keeps changing the course of
history which has disastrous outcomes for all parties involved
as he tracks the life of Melissa Waters (Brittany Ishibashi). On
top of trying to fix this riff that he has caused, he also has
to contend with the fact that his marriage now has cracks since
Katie now knows that he is communicating with Livia in the past
whenever he Time Jumps. How does one deal with this knowing that
your Husband is seeking council with an ex-fiance? Enter Jack,
her former lover and brother to Dan, who himself never got over
the fact that she left him in the first place. With all this
happening, this isn't the most interesting thing to come to
light.
Back in present day, Dan, the reporter that he is, has
started digging around about possiblities to explain what is
happening to him. His search on tachyon, which is is a
hypothetical subatomic particle that always moves faster than
light, which is also the basis of Time Travel has led him to
calling Professor Elliot Langley (Tom Everett) in the hopes of
setting up a meeting with him to further discuss his theory.
Langley eventually calls him back...in 1998. The mythology of
the show widens. Interesting.
