What Music genre do you listen to the most?

So, what's your main music genre? What type of music do you
listen to more than any other? Choose your main style, but feel
free to expand on other types of music you like as well.
As for me, even though I listen to a lot of different styles, it
still comes back to Heavy Metal / Hard Rock (KISS, Def Leppard,
Van Halen, GNR, etc...) as my first choice. I also listen to
Techno (Prodigy) from my clubbing days, Ska (No Doubt) and
Classic Rock (The Beatles, Elvis, U2)

When I turn on satellite radio, my go to choice is Adult
Alternative. I'm always looking for something new. My personal
burned CD's I lean heavily to Trip Hop. And that's kind of
misleading. It's the downtempo stuff I like. Much like ambient
with some beats.

Trip Hop? What the fuck! Never in a million years would I have
associated that to your musical taste.

Yea, it slowly happened over the years. When I was going after
my graphic art degree, I was the typical college student,
staying up all hours of the night tackling the next art project.
I would play my rock music loud and just see where things lead
me.
Then as I stood back and looked at what I did and how I felt, I
noticed my art had a hard edge to it. It was aggressive. I also
was tired and I don't mean from the late hours. I was just
energetic and worked harder. It hit me, when listening to Ted
Nugent, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, etc, I was approaching my art very
different than say, nothing or just quiet music.
So I tried new things. Soft rock - yea, No!. Classical – that
took a while to get used to, but I’ve come to enjoy it. Then one
day I heard Massive Attack, which lead me Enigma, then on and on
to other bands that have that relaxing downbeat sound. So when I
really need to concentrate with work or just relaxing, that’s my
music choice.
Now driving or working outside or partying… that’s a whole
different thing. ;)

Yeah, when you work on your art as I do, along with writing, you
really do need to open yourself to as many different styles of
music. And it's not really about expanding one's horizon because
you get bored with one type of genre either. For me and I'm sure
you will agree on this, but having so many different genres to
listen to helps expand your mind when it comes to creativity
when approaching art. At least that's what I get from it.
When I'm writing a short story and it's in the horror genre, I
will have a soundtrack of whatever Horror movie playing while
coming up with ideas, etc... When I write action scenes, I
usually have Hard Rock or Metal playing. It really does help
shape your psyche and get into the moment.

Ha, I wanted my brother to experience a concert, so I took him
to his first one. The Beach Boys. He thought they were amazing.
The sound, the lights the stage. I laugh, because, well really,
the beach boys have great music, but they sure don't do much on
stage. Colored lights and few palm trees. Oh, and that's where
he learned concerts where in stereo too.
