Okay, still rocking ADKOT, or more to the point, Big River. I
gotta say hot damn, Wolfie is f ucking smoking on the bass. His
runs are insanely addictive and makes the entire song what it
is. Just paying more attention to his part is giving me a
greater appreciation for what he is doing here.

[center]Dave Interviews Eddie and Alex (2012)
HTML http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4bFOuECaH4
I have never, EVER seen Diamond Dave talk with either Eddie and
Alex in sincere way as he does here. It has always been the
"Dave Show" when it comes to interviews and promo pieces where
he is hamming it up like he has always done. And it's because of
those interviews from years past which makes me really like this
interview a lot. It shows a different, more humanizing side to
all 3 of them. I'd like to see more interviews like this in the
future.

That was excellent. Yes very humanizing... reality... where most
of us put them on a pedestal... on stage... where they are
unapproachable. I've never bought into that idea. People are
human and should be treated as such. Great interview too.
Now with regards to listening to A Different Kind of Truth,
well, I need to give it a couple of more listens. I am not
enjoying it. Before I go all medieval, it's due more listens.

That was my initial reaction and felt it deserved more time to
connect with it. I think once you get a few of the songs under
your skin, you will appreciate them for what they are. That's
how it was with me.

I wanted to like A Different Kind of Truth, but then again, I
gave up on anything from Van Halen a long time ago. So
slooooowly as the news trickled in, I was open to new stuff. I
had imagined some brand new innovative stuff, but I was also
open to them recreating the early sound (which I heard rumors of
their direction).
So after several more listens I pretty much dislike A Different
Kind of Truth. I’m not going to go through each song, but as a
whole, A Different Kind of Truth becomes a wall of sound. The
headache inducing sound boyinblack80 talked about. Eddie is
shredding his best ever, but unfortunately I hate shredding…
especially across a whole album. It does sound like a Satriani
just going medieval on the frets. And I think hardcore Van Halen
fans will just love this coming from Eddie.
Roth is OK, he’s not terrible, but his distinctive sound has
lost some of its magic. A small nit is the overuse of Roth
talking in several of the songs.
I think the real killer for me is I could not find a single song
with a hook here. Where is the chorus? Where are the harmonies?
Oh, there are some harmonies, but dayum, IMO, they suck. Wolfie
is no Anthony.
A positive perspective is this is some of the best rawest stuff
to come out in a long time and is diametrically opposite of the
freaking crappy dredge that comes out of the pop world. And for
those folks that like to listen to this harder, edgier Van
Halen, that’s great. It’s just not for me.

Mac needs a hug. So does Boyinblack. I get where you guys are
coming from though. I think that because I kill baby seals I am
able to like this one more than you guys.

I'm good. No hug needed.
There's plenty of great music out there for me to discover.

I am curious to see what the band can do with newer material
that doesn't rely on songs that are 35 years old. The question
is whether they can get there before the inevitable self
destruction.

Sheesh! I'm just now finding this video? It was released back in
April. They really need to do a better job of letting people
know when new stuff is out.
