I get and understand why Manchester by the Sea got a lot of
acclaim for Casey Affleck, Lucas Hedges, Michelle Williams and
Kenneth Lonergan for Best Film and Original Screenplay. A lot of
great talent all around. The film looks really good and of
course the acting was top notch. So with all these accolades,
why only 3 Stars from me? Simply put, the story is depressing as
f*ck. It's bad enough there is one death in the movie, it's made
even more depressing when we finally get the big reveal for
Casey's character's backstory. The movie was very hard to sit
through and it's something I'll never do again. Also, the pacing
was just way to slow for my taste and some of the scenes run on
way to long. Gotta keep it lean and that means cutting out
excess fat from these scenes. Anyway, the movie earns its
acclaim, but I'll never bother with this film again. Worth a
Rent for those that don't mind the subject matter.

Hated this movie, despite my love for Affleck. As you say, slow
and depressing as f*ck. 30 minutes was all I could take. Another
example of Oscar material, and I'm actually dreading it.
