The Pilot for Animal Kingdom shows a lot of potential for what's
to come. On the surface, watching the first episode reminded me
a lot of Break Point because of the band of brothers who
orchestrate heists while also living the beach lifestyle. Remind
you of anything? No, these guys aren't adrenaline junkies as
seen in the movie (as of now), but it's unmistakable the
connection between this series and BP. There is also a hint of
Sons of Anarchy as well, especially with regards to Ellen
Barkin's role who reminds me of Katey Sagal's role as the
matriarch of her crime family in SOA. I'm definitely on board
to see where this goes. A lot of tension throughout the episode
in watching how Joshua adapts to moving in with his new family.
How far will he go to acclimate with thieves? Will he resist to
stay out of the lifestyle? I'm sure this will be the conflict
throughout the series as we are viewing the family through his
eyes. I'm 3 weeks behind on the show, so it's nice that I have
another 2 episodes to watch immediately. I also want to check
out the movie of the same name that this series is based on.
Need to see if my Library has a copy.

Another great episode. I really like where they are taking this.
It's fascinating to watch in spite of being repelled by what is
essentially an incestuous family. Ellen Barkin's role is just
creepy as f*ck and I'm still trying to figure out what is wrong
with her mentally to basically be coming onto her own kids. A
lot of ick factor whenever you see her staring at one of her
boys. Ellen and Scott Speedman may have top billing for the
series, but the show begins and ends with Shawn Hatosy who is
great as the mentally unstable eldest son. I don't know what is
going to happen to him, but it's going to come to a head in a
big way. Now, with that said, the one stand out moment for this
episode was clearly the sex scene because of just how much they
actually showed. I'm talking full-on soft-core p o r n here
which made it all the more shocking to see because it was on
TNT. They are really pushing the envelope of what they can get
away with. First there was the adult humor of The Detour, but
this sex scene was definitely pushing way past anything you have
seen on a network like TNT. More please. ;D

Yeah, I'm still watching this and totally liking the series so
far. It's building up to something big for the Season Finale.
One of the things I thought of when I watched the first couple
of episodes is that C. Thomas Howell should be in this and lo
and behold, he's in it now. I like where they are taking his
character, but I don't see him making it very far. I think he
will be used as a patsy or more likely killed off during the
Season Finale. We finally get the story about how Ellen Barkin's
character came to be called Smurf. He story in this episode was
interesting. Not sure what they are going to do with it thought
because I was certain she was going to kill off Isaiah because
of his role in what happened to her mother. Very interesting
twist the last couple of episodes regarding J's teacher turning
out to be working for the Feds in order to save herself prison
time as long as she can get the dirt on J's family. Now that he
knows, this should be fun to see play out.

Just got finished watching the final 3 episodes and it was a
great way to close out the season. The bulk of what the season's
arc was how J would either be corrupted by his new family or he
would some how come out clean and remain innocent. The Season
Finale threw a couple of curve balls at the viewer, which leaves
everything up in the air for Season 2. I knew that J was playing
the detective and getting the better of her. It was just how he
went about it and what his backstory was in regards to the
detective that made it a bit more interesting. This is where I
thought that he finally gave into and accepted his role as well
as his family. But the final scene leaves a lot in doubt as to
where his loyalty lies. The whole thing with the gun is symbolic
and to me, when the series eventually wraps up, he will use the
same gun that Smurf gave to him to kill her. Ironic twist if you
will. Anyway, this is a fantastic series and I'm pumped for the
show to return. Just sucks that this was only 10 episodes long.
Cough up the extra money and give me at minimum 13 episodes.
