Florida

Today is our first full day scoping out South Walton in Florida.
Looking around to see if it's got retirement potential - uh, I
still have at least 7 years to go. Maybe more if the job is good
to me.
A year ago we came down to Florida \ Alabama way just for a road
trip. Then, specifically to see Fairhope, Alabama. I was
pleasantly surprised. Not as backwoods as I imagined. Then we
just wandered to the gulf in Florida. Mexico Beach. Ugh what a
dump. I suggested we go back along the coast to an area I passed
through years ago. Highway 30A. It's a string of very nice
communities. My wife immediately fell in love with the area.
Many people do. It's nice.
So much, we are back to see if it would be appealing to stay,
not just visit.
Layout all the pros and cons.
Within the first 12 hours we've already met several folks that
were incredibly kind and friendly. Telling us all the the ins
and outs of the area.
By the people alone, I love it. Practicality? Financially? And a
number of other factors come into play. I know a week is only
scratching the surface. But, it's a start.

Me too. I did a brief stay there for some Cecil Field work.
Jacksonville impressed me. But it's on the east coast and my
wife has zero interest. Oh well.

Finding some nic properties. The weather, IMO, is outstanding.
Partly cloudy, with winds. People we run into are awesome. Food
is good. So diverse down here. We apparently just missed a huge
bike rally. There are still plenty of bikes running around.
Hmmmmmm, they've always been in the back of my mind. Wouldn't
mind getting one. I would never do it in St. Louis. Just to
dangerous.

Well our bubbles popped. It's just to expensive to live here.
Who know what the area will be like 8 years from now. Rental
property is too risky. The potential for over crowding is
unknown.
We also don't see eye to eye on what we want out of our final
home. That's gotta get worked through.
The place we rented, while on the beach is a dump. It's got
roaches. Not everything works, and the management company is
ignoring us. This leaves a horrible taste in the mouth.
Her friend Chris is coming to stay with us for a few days.
Honestly, I'm done here. The weather is too cool to get in the
ocean... So just sit? Gahhhhhhhh. I'm whining. Got move on and
just enjoy the relaxation.

I need an ice pick to thrust in my ears.
These women are non-stop talking and about... Nothing. It's like
a bad SNL skit.
