Just got Rocksmith 2011 in the mail today. Gotta put on a new
set of strings and then will check out the "game" and give it a
test drive. Wheeeeee!!

Okay, got my feet wet with the game. I'ts actually pretty fun.
Much better than I thought it would be and definitely more
intuitive than Rock Band 3 Pro Mode. So, played for about an
hour in Rocksmith, which threw a few songs at me, the Ducks
Arcade game, etc....Just have to wrap my head around the
highway. I'm use to Rock Bands highway , so RS is throwing me
off at times. But I picked it up faster than expected.

I'm really getting a kick out of playing Rocksmith. It's not
without faults mind you. But it's doing the one thing that I
wouldn't do on my own and that's learning different types of
songs. It has taken me some time to figure out the layout
because there is a lot of sh*t under the hood. But in a
nutshell, playing in Career Mode, the game takes you on tour and
at each stop, you are given a song to perform. It's basic at
first, but the more notes to start to nail, the more they start
throwing at you. If you don't do well enough to qualify, at the
conclusion of the song, they give you a few recommendations. The
one that I find the most helpful is the Riff Repeater where you
can work out parts of the song that you are having problems
with. Once you get it down, you move onto the next part.
At any time, you can jump back into the song and see the
progress you've made. Like I said, this is fun and teaching me a
new way of doing things instead of fixating on one style and
then trying to be the 'fastest' guitar slinger out there. Love
the fact that the sound generated in the game is my sound and
not some prerecorded sound that is "triggered" by hitting the
buttons at the right time as seen in Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

I'm still trying to visualize what you're doing.
My son had Rockband or whatever that faux music machine was.
unfortunately, that's what I'm visualizing.

Here's a review for you Mac. All you need to know is that
whatever real Guitar you have on hand, you plug directly into
the console. What you play on your end is what you hear in the
"game". I don't like calling it a game, because it really is a
in-house 'music teacher'.

OK, I see, it's an evolution forward with the guitar playing and
tying it into game play.
This is not a game, but Roland rolled out 'practice' software
(V-Drum Friend Jam) that ties your E-drum playing with their
song list, that then will rate you based on many variables. It
also will place you in a totem pole based on the numbers you get
with people from all around the world.
It's pretty impressive for improving your technique. This video
below shows Chris Blundell demo a rock song... the video just
stops, but after the song, the results come up.

Exactly. It's the same concept, just different instruments and
software with the same objective at the end of the day.

Oh, I forgot to mention my views on adding Drums to Rocksmith.
Even though the original version of the game doesn't have Drums
included with it, it's only a matter of time before they turn
this into a full 'Band' experience, much like the way that Rock
Band did. One thing I do know is that Rocksmith 2014 Edition
will have both Guitar and Bass included with the game at launch.
I figured that the next release after that will have Drums and
my guess, Keyboards as well. I just hope that they accommodate a
full size Keyboard and not the half ass version that was in Rock
Band where you are playing parts on one hand instead of two.
Getting back the drums, I hope that RS follows suit by using
real E-Drums that people already own rather than using the type
of set that Rock Band had made specifically for the game. This
way they can keep in line of using real instruments and not
"plastic toys".
