The 5th fret 6th fret thing could be that your slightly bending
the string which will make it closer to a A# not an A (on the
top string). That's a pretty common beginner mistake.
Anyway, I bought this today and have a bit of a hard time with
the timing. It's funny because the first song is satisfaction
which is one of the very first songs I learned to play. I had a
hard time not playing notes that I know are supposed to be
there. It also kind of threw me off that they have you playing
songs on the first two strings up to fret 5 then BAM on one of
the encores you're up at the 12th fret. Probably wouldn't be a
problem if I knew the songs, but a couple I've never heard
before in my life.
All in all it's a big step up from rock band. Hopefully this
will get the legions of gamers out there to learn a real
instrument.

I figured there would be those select few that would say the
game is garbage because they are "seasoned pros" at playing
guitar. I'm really not all that concerned about that. I think
that as long as it's enjoyable and keeps anyone playing and
practicing their instrument, it's successful in my eyes. So, I
fully intend on picking up a copy of the "game" for myself.
Question, how do you guys navigate through the menus to select
whatever it is that you want to try out? In Rock Band, using the
Fender Squire itself was a controller, so you could nav that
way. But here, with a real guitar, I can't picture it. Unless of
course you just keep your Xbox controller nearby and use that.
Duh.

Yeah, I had to keep a controller handy. I just bought the stand
alone game and am using a regular guitar. Maybe the one that
comes with has some buttons?
Like you said, any tool that keeps you interested and practicing
is a win in my eyes.

As far as I know there are no buttons on the guitar that comes
in the bundle. Just a regular guitar for those that don't
already own one.

Added Rocksmith Review (IGN)
So Umaine and Wilson, tell me more about the minigames. Any
favorites yet? And tell me just how in depth the customization
of the FX Rack and Pedals are.

I've only unlocked 1 mini game so far, that being Ducks, and its
highly fucking addictive and highly fucking useful! its just a
bunch of columns representing all the frets and the strings at
the bottom. The strings are differentiated by the colors of the
360s controller button so you don't have to worry about not
knowing what string to strum. Ducks come up from the bottom on a
fret and you have to strum the proper string on the right fret
to fire a shot and hit the duck. The quicker you get the shot
off and hit the duck the more points and time you get. It
teaches speed, accuracy, and shifting, simple concept that works
well.
I spent most of my time the other day practicing riffs to
Satisfaction, actually just the intro. I increased my level from
56% accuracy to 86%. I did however find myself "cheating" by
using my Rock Band slide technique which is in real guitar
technique a no no. Instead of training my pinky to get that
furthest down fret I was sliding my hand down and using my ring
finger. Its definitely not the most efficient way to do it but
it got the desired effect, leveling me up and getting the riff
right.
The bundled guitar is kind of a mini where it has 1 pick up and
there not much to it. however it is a real guitar and isn't like
the RB squire that has controller buttons.
Last week I got real lucky and now find myself with 2 guitars. A
guy at work was getting ready to move and was selling all his
stuff. So I went over and took a look at what he was selling and
the only thing that caught my eye was this barely used Epiphone
Les Paul Special II. Jet black and custom gold pick ups and
tuning pegs with gold trim. I went home to get my little amp and
tried it out with what little I can do and it sounded great and
was in perfect shape with just a couple of small blemishes. I
was afraid to ask how much but apparently he was really in need
of money, $75. I almost felt guilty..... almost.

I forgot to post here earlier when I saw it, but 2 days ago I
went to Amazon to see if there was a price drop and saw that the
$80 price tag had jumped to $107. I was scratching my head in
how a product just released with the MSRP could soar that high,
that fast. This morning, the price is back down. Actually, it's
2 bucks cheaper than it's original tag.

Yeah sounds like a little "Oopsie!" on Amazons behalf. Sometimes
if you're lucky you can catch them when they do the opposite and
lower the price of something. But that usually doesn't last
long.
