Valerian- The City Of A Thousand Planets (2017)

       The Original Post
So, Valerian, Luc Besson's long-awaited spiritual sequel to The
Fifth Element... looks a BIT familiar...

  HTML http://www.bestmovie.it/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/valerian-foto.jpg[/center]
(I do like that the original version of the characters are on
his jacket in the pic, it's a nice touch)
But they look exactly like Mass Effect. And as much as I'd love
to see a Mass Effect movie (and how easygoing I am about
sampling in creative works as long as it DOES SOMETHING
INTERESTING), I hope that the movie feels more like Fifth
       Element.
Which is weird because the original Star Wars borrowed heavily
       from the Valerian books,
  HTML https://nothingbutcomics.net/2015/12/14/valerian/
       as did The
Fifth Element (with some nice additions by the no-longer-with-us
Moebius). I would hate for the uniquely funky French vision
of the future to be repalced with something common and
       mainstream.
       --------
Because there's so many pictures coming out for the movie... and
it's so different than any other movie coming out, I think this
       deserves it's own thread.
Entertainment Weekly has a whole article about this
  HTML http://www.ew.com/article/2016/03/25/valerian-first-look-luc-besson,<br
/>the enthusiasm Besson has for the project is so palpable,
hopefully that will translate to general enthusiasm for the
       flick.
       Anyway, onto more photos!

This might be the most Luc Besson image ever.

That summer style totally reminds me of The Fifth Element...
particularly the net shirts and bright colours.

The Tracking Board (as well as a lot of other websites) have a
write-up of the Valerian footage shown at San Diego Comic Con
  HTML http://www.tracking-board.com/comic-con-2016-luc-besson-wows-hall-h-with-jaw-dropping-valerian-footage/,<br
/>but of course not the actual footage, which I REALLY want to
see. The visual effects still aren't done, so it's mostly
practical stuff. But oh man, I'm so excited!

Gah.... I'm so torn. On one hand, I typically love Besson's
vision, but something that really is putting a damper on things
for me, and clearly it's my bias, is the future worlds will be
       saved by very young people.
admittedly I associate age/maturity to experience, skill and
strength. I just have a hard time with newborns saving the
universe. it just makes more sense to me to visualize older
       people working the problem.
I know, since Star Wars to Enders Game and the Independence Day
sequel, we are given the story line of the young having the
advantage. Star Wars does make sense and I kind of get Ender's
Game, but Independence Day was complete crap because of the
young storyline. The studio's have gone completely full bore
with the millennial generation represented in output of movies
today. And from what I'm hearing, they are not the ones going to
the theaters and possibly not bothering with movies (DVD,
       streaming) all together.
I'm not going to crap on Valerian. I need to see it. I hope it
holds up for me like the good movies I mentioned before.

Actors have to be young now because they want to make lots of
sequels and do lots of stunts. RDJ is a bit of an outlier, he's
in his 50s now and he's Iron Man, but most of that is CGI.
People want to see actors in action, not CGI, not stuntmen.

I kinda get that, but I thought it was more for the audience
they are trying to attract. I think we see very good success
with older folks in action films. Will Simth, Keanu Reeves, Tom
Cruise, Liam Neeson, Denzel Washington, Bruce Willis, Matt
Damon, etc... and the list goes on.
