Wrapping up my Kevin Smith marathon with Jersey Girl, a movie
that I think is unfairly badmouthed. Sure, it's riddled with
cliches and thick with sentimentality and by-the-numbers
plotting. It doesn't take a genius to figure out how the movie
will play and end within the first 5 minutes of the film as it's
something we have seen time and time again. I for one have seen
this one a few times and I like it, in spite of everything
surrounding the movie. It just sucks that this flick gets lumped
into the whole Gigli-gate because of Ben Affleck and Jennifer
Lopez. For those that don't know...
...J-Lo's character bites it inside of the first 5
minutes of the movie. So fret not, this isn't a Bennifer
vehicle.
As for the movie, I think it's a pretty decent family picture
with a nice supporting cast with the likes of George Carlin,
Jason Biggs, Stephen Root, Liv Tyler and newcomer, the adorable
Raquel Castro, who steals every scene she is in. And there is a
cool cameo from Will Smith that pays off the running joke
surrounding his namesake the entire movie. Even though Jersey
Girl does not take place in the View Askewniverse, that doesn't
mean that Mr. Smith doesn't use his go-to actors to fill out
some roles here. You can find Jason Lee, Matt Damon and Ernest
O'Donnell here as well.
I own the movie, but I would say it's definitely worth a Rent,
if not a Buy.

Knowing you, that statement is riddled with sarcasm.
