       Computer Disk Space

       Looking for advice.
So I maxed out my home laptop hard drives 'C' and 'D'. I think I
       have one hard drive... partitioned.
I believe I've maxed it out with my music files. I pretty much
record every CD that passes through my hands onto my computer,
and in itunes. Also I convert a lot of youtube to mp3.
I bought a Seagate backup about a year ago and it's half full. I
think with any new documents I touch, pictures and I'm not sure
       about the music files.
How do I solve this problem? Can I move the music files to my
Seagate. Would that remove them from disks C & D?
Do I get my PC room back?
I guess I could buy a couple of large memory sticks?
       I know I've burned a lot to CD, but that's a pain.
I'm not so sure about the cloud. I definitely don't want some
       kind of monthly payment thing.
       Ideas?

If you move the music files to an external hard drive, you will
still need to delete them from your laptop to free up space. I
have a few External Hard Drives...some old.....some new. The
"old" ones are like 500 gb and the newer ones are in the 1-2 TB
range. I have a couple of flash-drives which I talked about here
  HTML http://pennycan.createaforum.com/hardware/flash-drive/,
       but they
don't carry much and I'm still looking for a good one that looks
cool. Looking in the 128 gb range for those. Buying a newer
External Hard Drive is the way to go because they offer even
more space now at a fraction of the cost compared to just 5
       years ago.

Well, in the process of rebuilding my PC that crapped out a
couple of months ago (remember? >:( ), I realized that I needed
a new External Hard Drive because the others were already maxed
out. I decided to go with the 2 TB Silicon Power HD and I love
it. It's portable, military-tested rugged, meaning you can drop
the HD on a cement ground and it will still work. It's also
water-proof in which it can be submerged in water up to 30
minutes and still run without skipping a beat. If those weren't
selling points enough, this portable HD comes with 2 separate
cables (one short and one long) for plugging into your laptop or
PC. It works with either Windows or Macs, so you're covered
there. One last cool feature is that this HD is powered up
through the cables that are included. No more having to plug in
a power source to power it up. This truly is a plug and play
device. I will most definitely be picking up another one for
       sure.

I really hate that Apple switched to SSDs because they halve the
hard drive space without affecting the price. I had to get a
refurbished one to get 500 GB of space, I backup monthly to a
4TB drive (which also has all my fifteen years worth of files),
another for my media, and an old spare 1TB for my iTunes. I try
to keep as little as possible on my actual computer, I've been
through enough computers to know better than that.
I ALSO try to make a point out of keeping my files organized as
I go, I hope that you're doing that as well, Mac. There's no
point in keeping all your stuff backed up if you don't know
       where to look for it.
