       Rumours of Fleetwood Mac
By: Mac Date: February 20, 2015, 11:28 am

I did not even know this was a thing. But related to the comment
I made a little bit ago about ticket prices for Fleetwood Mac, I
would definitely entertain this tribute band... if they ever
       came around.

[quote]As far as tribute acts go Rumours of Fleetwood Mac are
one of the best, if not the best, at sounding like the real
       thing.
Since forming 15 years ago the band has won rave reviews and
even the backing of Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood.
The larger than life musician even appears in a video
introducing Rumours to the stage at gigs.
Allan Cosgrove is the man who has Fleetwood's huge shoes to fill
in Rumours – and he was once even demoted to maracas as the big
man joined the group on stage.
Cosgrove said: “What I did at the start was send Mick Fleetwood
some recordings to see if it was a cool thing to do or not
because I knew him from another life in the industry so I had a
       way through to him.
“He gave us the thumbs up so that was good. He's played in the
       gig now twice.
“It was scary. I knew he was coming the first time but I didn't
tell anyone else. I'm the drummer and was nervous before I went
       on.
“It's a big ask. He's sitting there watch his grooves go by
hopefully, and he did. I told the guys at half-time he was there
and we had a great second-half.
“Then he came on and played the last two tracks which I wasn't
expecting. I jumped on maracas then.
“We had a great night that night and he has just been really
great to us along the way.”
The act has grown in popularity since it formed and with
Fleetwood Mac back touring and planning a new album interest has
       grown in the tribute act.
“The shows have now captured the imagination the the public. You
come to the gig as a fan reluctantly it's still like a bunch of
plagiarists but it just seems to have gained momentum. As the
audiences have come the show has got bigger and better. There's
now eight people on stage,” Cosgrove said.
“We love the songs so that makes a big difference. We all do
other things as musicians and maybe fold together for 100 dates
a year to do this now across the world which I a great honour to
       be able to do.
“How the gig came about was interesting. It's been out there for
15 years now which is great.
“The core of the band that is still together on stage had to, as
session musicians, record an advertisement for an American root
beer. We had to sound like a band from the 70s called Heart,
       which wasn't quite Fleetwood Mac.
“On the playback for that session it just sounded like Fleetwood
Mac and I think that was the epiphany moment.
“Back then you had people like the Bootleg Beatles playing
festivals all of a sudden and I would have been the first one to
say 'what the hell is all this about? Other bands playing other
       peoples music'.
“The view was 'there's nobody else doing this catalogue of music
and if we sound like it we should maybe try a couple of gigs'.
“We were all used to playing around the world behind people from
Cliff Richard to Chuck Berry. So we went to try the gig to see
if the Fleetwood Mac fan base would come out and throw tomatoes
       at us.
“They did and they didn't throw tomatoes – it went down really
great. That's how ti started. It was more by chance than design.
“There's five decades of music gone by now from Fleetwood Mac.
The biggest part of this was it sounded like it without actually
trying to mimic, it's not like they turn the voices on so that's
cool. Then we're all 50-something so we kinda look like them.
“I play drums and it was never about me sticking on a ponytail
and high-heeled shoes on. It was just to play the music we had
all grown-up with and been highly influenced by.”
Rumours of Fleetwood Mac will play at Eden Court, Inverness, on
February 19; The Music Hall, Aberdeen, on February 20 and The
Alhambra Theatre, Dunfermline, on February 22.
