I agree 100% with Mac's assessment that the villain went too far
into Bond territory with his proclamation. I'll get say that I
think the writer(s) purposely used some of the Roger Moore-Era
Bond flicks, intentional or not, when creating his Russian
Antagonist. Overall, I thought the episode finished strong in
spite of a slow opening and the ham-fisted dialogue between the
two captains. I did however like the tactical bait and switch of
fooling the Russian's into believing the US Ship was still in
port. I thought it was done very well in creating a sense of
       urgency for the viewer.

Last night’s episode didn’t have conflict, but more of a
       survivor slant.
Gaaaaaaaaaaaawd, I just want to strangle TNT because of their
bombardment of commercials during The Last Ship. I actually
screamed at the TV it bugged me soooo much. Which is kind of
related to a fairly boring episode last night. The combination
of non-story and the overabundance of commercials definitely
tested my patience. My wife loves the show and I do find
something yet hooking me, but I am definitely on the fence about
staying with it. The commercial onslaught is a huge negative.

I thought the episode was good, if not great. I like that we all
put great emphasis on technology for everyday things and when
the basic thing of fresh water is taken away from us, we fall to
pieces. It's from this depth we have to come up with creative
things to replace whatever is taken away from us. It was kind of
a Macgyver moment in creating the sails and drowning the 'Cure'
in the ocean to keep it cold enough. Probably why I like the
episode. Sure, not much else happened in the form of a story,
but it did enough to keep me engage with the show. They probably
wanted to get the water from the alcohol from the beer because
the last thing they need are a bunch of drunken sailors getting
       tattoos. ;D
Sucks about the ads. Watching it OnDemand for this episode in
particular wasn't too bad when it came to commercials.

Best part of the entire episode was their little 'Rambo'
infiltration of the camp. I would like to see more of this on
the show and I think that's how each episode is being built.
Doctor needs such and such at Location X. Navy heads to retrieve
it. Meets hostiles. Takes them out. End of episode. I don't mind
this, but I do hope that they don't drag it out forever before
the Doc can start working on a cure (which won't work for
whatever reason. Otherwise the series is done). Still waiting on
       the mutiny!!

I agree with your post Chip but I would add having to drive
-sail- past the infected people on the beach really added the
human element to the whole thing.

I agree. It was a great way to not only remind the characters on
the show, but to remind the viewers exactly what they are
fighting for. It's easy to lose sight of the big picture if it's
all about the missions without a face(s) attached to it.

I found last nights episode "Lockdown" an improvement over the
last two episodes. It was solid drama. Focusing on the "what if"
an infection on a boat. It got pretty intense and subplots of
various individuals was very realistic. Great speech by the
captain to summarize and set things right.

Easily the best episode yet and it didn't even require one gun
to be fired either. I was pretty sure that this was going to
finally kick the mutiny I have been waiting for. But as soon as
the Captain brought everyone (almost everyone) into the lab to
explain what they are doing to find the cure and what their
mission is in order to see to it that they succeed, I knew those
that were on the fence would in fact reenlist. Episode was
perfect from start to finish. I'm still convinced that a mutiny
is fast approaching. They may have stemmed the tide for now, but
once the failure rate of the cure starts to mount, that's when
the cracks are going to come fast and furious.

Kind of a holding pattern episode once they extract the lone
survivor from the boat who just happens to be immune to the
virus and will become Patient X for the eventual cure. That is
until she's killed or more likely traded to the Russians in
exchange for the Captain. Speaking of Cappy, it was a nice twist
at the end of the episode given how it was edited. Sure, we've
all seen this type of bait and switch swerve before in other
shows. But it still works as it sets up the next episode.
Overall, this was a good episode to watch.
