Joan Jett (the book) is kind of an odd one in both construction
as well as how it's written. First off, the book is slightly
larger than your standard book (not quite a coffee table book
either) and that has more to do with getting the most out of the
pages when it comes to full color photos of Joan. This is in
fact the biggest selling point of the book. A ton of images that
I've never seen before. Not sure if what is inside the book was
readily available online, but it was cool to see photos from
before she was in the Runaways, during and after. With the size
of the book dedicated primarily to images, that left plenty of
real estate for the written word. But these particular pages
were never utilized for a massive amount of text. Matter of
fact, it became more of a design element where a paragraph or
two is strategically placed on the page.
One thing about what we get to read is that it's more 'stream of
conscious' as it's told by Jett herself. Since the topic at hand
tended to jump around a lot (which is what we all do in real
life), it can come off a bit haphazard in print. So, she will
talk about one specific thing and then go completely somewhere
else that isn't even related to what she was just talking about.
The way this read, it reminded me a lot of Slash's

/>book. One last thing that felt kind of strange (or maybe
this too was by design given how the book is different from a
lot of others) was that the 'Foreward' was in fact at the very
end. Wouldn't that make it 'Backwards' ;D If you're a Joan Jett
fan, this is definitely a book you will want to check out. Worth
a Rent from the Library. But if you're looking for something
along the lines of a traditional Rock Bio, you will be somewhat
disappointed as it does gloss over a lot of her life and career.
This is more of a laundry list of her accomplishments rather
than getting into the nuts and bolts of what makes Joan Jett
tick.
4 Stars out of 5

That's a shame about not talking about who she is.
Yea, the accomplishments are great, but give me something....
anything, to understand what makes Joan tick then, and today.
Didn't she just release a new album?
Also, Lita Ford is releasing something very soon.
