Kickstarter

What do you guys know about Kickstarter? How it works? Perks?
Failures? Successes?
I just happened across two products I just now heard about and
wish I got on the ground floor.
What little I do know, it seems to be a great way to take an
idea and get it off the ground with financial support from
investors.
But beyond giving money to the project, what does one get out of
it?

If it weren't for [b]Kickstarter, the Veronica Mars Movie

/>would still be a pipe dream. I'm okay with it funding smaller
projects and in this rare case, a movie that would not have
gotten off the ground when Warner Brothers said "No" to the idea
of financing the film. But if Michael Bay or Steven Spielberg
decides to fund his next movie using money from the fans in
place of his own money, that's where I draw the line.

Depending on the project, most will offer some sort of swag or
tickets or producer credit or whatever. It's kind of like
getting something on the back end rather than up front.
