I've always wanted to do a mini marathon with Tootsie, followed
by Mrs. Doubtfire so that I could once and for all put both of
these movies into context when comparing the two. And let me
tell ya, as much as I like Mrs. Doubtfire, it's nowhere in the
same league as Tootsie. Now, this may sound like I'm p*ssing on
Mrs. Doubtfire and saying it's a bad movie. Nothing could be
further from the truth. But my little experiment the last two
days was to see which one sits at the top of the hill and
Tootsie comes away as the Champion.
As for Mrs. Doubtfire, I really do like the movie a lot,
especially Robin Williams performance as the father that would
do anything to see his kids, including dressing up as a 'Mary
Poppins'-like Nanny....costume and all. There are a lot of
similarities between both movies, yet they feel nothing like the
other. Both are based on the male figure that also happens to be
actors and both have the characters learning something of great
value. With Tootsie, he learns what it's like to be a women, in
Mrs. Doubtfire, he learns what it takes to become a responsible
       parent.
The difference though is that one is geared more to the adult
audience while Doubtfire aims straight for the family audience
where both Adults and kids will get something out it. This one
is definitely one to Rent for sure. Ya can't go wrong with
either films. Personally, Tootsie is still King. Both Sally
Field and Pierce Brosnan were great in Mrs. Doubtfire and Lisa
Jakub would go onto star in the cult fave George Lucas In Love

You should watch the Mrs Featherbottom eps of Arrested
Development just to be a completist.

Don't remember the last time I saw this one. Been a while.
Mara Wilson was also in it, wasn't she?
There's ONE bit of trivia I do know about this movie, and it's
that they originally wanted to use Tom Jones' "She's A Lady" for
the montage sequence. I think the Aerosmith song works better.

The entire time I was watching Doubtfire, Mrs. Featherbottom
kept creeping in. Just one of MANY awesome bits for Tobias. And
yes, Mara Wilson is in this.

I actually should have remembered this movie because a friend is
writing a movie about a divorced couple and of course NOW it
occurs to me that this could be a baseline comparison. Though
of course now I can't get in contact with her.
Gawd I can't wait for Arrested Development.
