Re: What Toys Do You Collect?

There looked like there was a crop of new toys at
Books-A-Million (I realized it became the new Sam Goody a while
ago), neat stuff like the robots from Portal (which I had seen
there before), figures from Assassin's Creed, and a whole new
set of Jaegers from Pacific Rim. No Gyspy Danger, though, which
was what I was holding out for. I was tempted to get Crimson
Typhoon to put alongside this old blue robot I have but I wanna
save my cash for the con trip (which I imagine I will be buying
more toys than I can expect).
They also had the first wave of Game Of Thrones figures, but for
some insane reason, Arya's not amongst them. Let's be honest,
that's one of the ones you want.
I feel like... if I had display space (I so don't) and cash, I
would be mixing and matching like crazy, I'd want to get Dany
and put her with Toothless from HTTYD (his figure looks AMAZING,
right out of the movie). Play around like that. But
technically, I can draw, so can't I do that sort of thing for
free whenever I want anyway?

I use to collect toys as if they were going out of style. I'd
have my desk littered with everything from Terminator action
figures to bobble heaqds to Clerks. You name it, it was in front
of me. But desktop space became cluttered to the point that
whatever I bought, went straight into storage. I really have to
force myself not to buy stuff any more because I have no place
to put it. But if there is something at Comic Con that catches
my eye......out comes the wallet.
Sigh.

I had to get rid of so many toys moving all over the place when
I was a kid (I still have my Fugitoid!) that now, I only buy the
stuff that REALLY catches my eye and my heartstrings, and I
refuse to let go. I have this big blue robot from 1998 that I
got when it came out, I love that thing. I have a couple
Enterprises (though no Enterprise-D, and that was the one I grew
up with).
I've got the Kamen Rider W Cyclone/Joker SIC figurine because I
f'in loved that show, the design, the characters, all of it. I
wanted a piece of it. It's still in the box in a bag because I
have no place to show it off (and my god, there are SO many
parts). I've always wanted an SIC figure because they look
amazing (I'm sure they'll have a display booth at SDCC, they
have before, hyper-detailed figure/statues of bugs that look
like old apples). And I've got the current Yellow Ranger
hanging out in my Cyberdyne mug b/c I love the design of the
costume, the japanese character, the american character, and the
actress who plays her (though the series is so BAD). Quadruple
whammy. 10 bucks well spent.
The thing is, now, I put my own spin on everything I see, so the
toys would only make sense to me with attachments or other
figures that don't exist. I guess the next step is to make
what's in my head a thing so that toys will be made OF them.
Oh, and Chip, there's gonna be awesome stuff at Comic Con.
Mondo is doing toys. MONDO. Is doing TOYS. Including The Iron
god-d*mn Giant!

I read about Mondo a few days ago. I totally forgot to post the
link.

So, I treated myself to a couple toys today. Right now on my
desk I have the John Hurt War Doctor figure and Gentle Giant's
Dany Targareon figure. I picked them because a) I dig both
characters and b) they kinda look alike. Rugged earth tones
with draping lines. And the War Doctor's cube keeps finding
itself rolling around in my hand. Cool, clockwork crate.

I will say, the War Doctor looks more like John Hurt than Dany's
figure looks like Dany... which is odd, coming from Gentle
Giant.
I gotta figure out places online to look for and order toys,
there's really no places to look for the cool ones. I've been
waiting for an Arya, but apparently there's already been an Arya
released.

Very cool. As for me, I'm actually trying to score the 2014
Comic Con Exclusives for the Walter White and Jesse Pinkman
Funko Pop figures. But the price is over inflated at the moment
on eBay. So I am biding my time, waiting for Sellers to get
desperate and drop the prices.

Those Funko things are cute, but I don't know if I'd buy any of
them.
I saw... one toy I saw that I thought was cool was this Mario
figure, it looks like it walked right out of the game, but I
can't get it because I'll keep expecting it to start running
around and jumping on things. It's just shockingly accurate (I
will say, Mario would go well with the clockwork crate... which
I just remembered is called "The Moment.")
I wish I had some display space... I have a KA2 Hit Girl still
in plastic that I think would be paired with a cool Batman,
maybe one from the games, but I have no idea where to look. I
need sites to look through!

I really didn't have much interest in any of the Funko toys
before getting inside Comic Con. But as soon as I did, I heard
that they were THE Exclusives to get and I spent the majority of
the day hitting as many of the small Toy Vendors and hearing the
same damn thing over and over "Sorry, we just sold out". Sigh.
So, with the amount of time I invested in that day doing that
little quest.....I owe it to myself to get those two
exclusives.....but at a decent price.

I remember hearing that there was a big thing about the
exclusives getting bought out way too quickly-- mostly to people
who were intent on reselling them. They need to do something
about that.

Well, the small vendors sold out. The main Exhibitor Funko
had/has reserves for each day and I saw they had about 30 or so
left on the back shelf. But the line was about 40 deep and you
NEEDED a ticket to get in line. There was a mob of people trying
to get a ticket. I was f*cked regardless. I knew that each
person in line would get 1 of each. Do the math with what was
left on the shelf and how many people were already in line, it
was a no-win situation. That's when I did another lap trying to
find some of the vendors I hadn't gotten too with the hopes one
of them had a couple stashed away from view.
