A very odd episode for a number of reasons. First, Nellie, who
has been really annoying up till now, decides to claim the
manager's job in Scranton as her own and seize's the moment to
steal the job from Andy who is off in Florida trying to woo Erin
back. Although I'm not particularly fond of Nellie, I do like
that the writer's have gone back to using the Ricky Gervais mold
of making the character extremely uncomfortable to watch. I was
literally squirming in my seat watching this episode because she
made me feel very uncomfortable, which is what her role in the
show is suppose to do.
As for Andy and Erin, I didn't think they were able to quite
pull off what they were aiming for, so when it came to Erin
finally accepting Andy and agreeing to return with him, it was
lackluster. The old lady and the son just ruined any kind of
moment Andy and Erin could have had. Just an average episode.
Not sure if I should blame Rainn Wilson since he directed the
episode. But he should be accountable for sure. And since I'm
pointing out technical things regarding the episodes production
work....
....what's the deal with Erin being filmed in Green Screen? It's
clear that she was superimposed as seen in the third ScreenCap
image above.

This episode was only slightly better than the last one and a
lot of that goes to Jim sabotaging the Magician's performance so
that Nellie's feelings would be spared. I don't know what it is,
but the whole Andy/Erin thing is misfiring big time. It seems
that Erin 'longing' for Andy was a better story arc than them
actually getting together.
In other news, James Spader who plays Robert California will not
be returning next season and the same goes for Paul Lieberstein
who plays Toby as well as being the show-runner for The Office.
He will be focusing his attention on The Farm, which is a
spin-off from the show that will have Dwight Schrute (Rainn
Wilson) running is Bed & Breakfast from his Beet Farm. Mindy
Kaling who plays Kelly Kapoor has a Pilot on FOX in the works
and if that gets picked up, she too will be saying goodbye to
The Office.
Season 9 really doesn't look promising given that talks between
NBC and John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, B. J. Novak and Ed Helms
have come to a standstill.

I've heard the criticism this episode in particular has gotten,
and most of it is pretty much spot on. Just looking at the title
of the episode, I knew what I was in for. It was a return to
Andy's former self where everything p i s s e s him off. But
in this case, I think it's justified because he had no other
emotion but anger when he finds out that he has been replaced by
Nellie. On top of that, no one in the office even has his back.
This part of the episode really isn't what I have an issue with.
It's the whole Kelly / Ryan angle. It's old and boring and
doesn't really elicit any kind of humor. If anything, it just
further emphasizes how stupid both characters are. Kelly is in a
great "relationship" with Ravi played by Sendhil Ramamurthy of
Heroes fame, but then throws it all away because Ryan is able to
lead her on to the idea that they will "get married, some
day.....in the future....probably not".
As bad as the episode is, there are some pretty funny laugh out
loud moments to be found here. Dwight for the win. "I'm gonna
prove it right here, right now". The conference room meeting
about Impotence was indeed funny. But there weren't enough of
those funny moments to save the episode as a whole. Man, it's
hard to believe there was a good run of episodes somewhere in
the middle of the season, but the last handful of episodes have
really nosedived into crap as it limps toward the Season and
possibly Series Finale.

I did not think it was possible, but they were able to outdo
themselves by turning out and even worse episode than last
weeks. Just bad all around. Andy, with his "I'm fine" mentality
was just unbearable to watch. This episode had only 2 things
that I would consider funny, one of them obviously
unintentional.
The taco gag was indeed funny. Well, maybe it was Craig Robinson
(Darryl) trying to stay in character and not laugh too much at
what Eliie was trying to do with her Taco, which made it funnier
than what it actually was. And I, like everyone else just
figured that Kevin was taking "care" of a dead dog, which is
somewhat of an accurate description of what The Office is now.
Time to pull the plug.......

I knew that Andy would land the deal with the paper company and
figured he would use it for leverage to get back his old job.
That part actually happened, but I didn't see Robert actually
turning down the offer. The biggest surprise for me was seeing
Andy offer the the proposition of buying Dunder Mifflin to David
Wallace. I thought his cameo was a one time thing last week. If
he does end up investing in the company, it would be a huge step
in the right direction to go back to what Dunder Mifflin
was....a paper company, and not Sabre, which is something I've
always thought to be dumb. Different product = different show in
a lot of ways.
Also, one of the best cold openings to any episode this season.
So damn funny!!!
