Independence Day: Resurgence Trailer #1
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwL3KBNmDhM
A) I totally forgot about this and B) I'm totally on board for
this after what I consider to be more a Teaser than an actual
Trailer. FYI, I changed the title of the thread to it's new
name. So, this isn't a new thread, but the old one.

They made INSANE jumps in tech over the last 20 years. They got
a moonbase and hover-jets and sh*t. Though I wonder how much of
that has trickled down to the rest of the world. We know the
planet is united, but realistically, after the massive
destruction and death in the original movie, you gotta figure
that the environment is wrecked, that there's massive waves of
migrants, unemployment, health crises... we have to have become
a third world planet after that. Even if the military has
advanced tech, what's happening to the regular people on the
ground?

[glow=red,2,300]Why Will Smith won't be back in the
'Independence Day' sequel[/glow]
Fox released the trailer for the "Independence Day"
sequel, "Independence Day: Resurgence," Sunday afternoon, and
the first thing you may have noticed is that Will Smith isn't
returning for another battle with aliens. Back in 2014, Deadline
reported that Smith turned down working on the film.
Previously, director Roland Emmerich, who will be returning for
the sequel, said they simply couldn't afford to cast Smith in
the film because "he's too expensive."
"Will Smith cannot come back because he's too expensive, but
he'd also be too much of a marquee name," Emmerich told the New
York Daily News in 2013. "It would be too much."
Smith received a $20 million payday for 2001's boxer movie
"Ali."
So how is the movie dealing with Smith's absence?
Easy: They're killing him off.
Along with the trailer, Fox launched a website called The War of
1996, showing a timeline of events since the first film, which
came out in 1996.
Entertainment Weekly spotted a nugget on the timeline showing
that Smith's character, Col. Steven Hiller, was conveniently
killed April 27, 2007, while testing an alien hybrid ship.
Here's the entire blurb:
While test piloting the ESD's first alien hybrid fighter, an
unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller.
Hiller's valor in the War of '96 made him a beloved global icon
whose selfless assault against the alien mother ship lead
directly to the enemy's defeat. He is survived by his wife
Jasmine and son Dylan.
It looks like Smith doesn't have the chance to even come back in
any more potential sequels.
Though Smith won't be back, a majority of actors from the
original movie will reprise their roles, including Jeff
Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, and Bill Pullman.
Maybe the movie doesn't need him. They signed on "The Hunger
Games" star Liam Hemsworth as one of the film's leads.
The first film became the highest-grossing movie of 1996. It
made over $817 million worldwide.
"Independence Day: Resurgence" will be in theaters June 24,
2016.
I wonder if the movie will take place on July 24th and the days
leading up to it, the same way the first flick took place on the
2nd, 3rd, anf 4th (which helped since it actually came out on
the 2nd even though it was supposed to come out on the 4th).
Of course, what happens if they do that and the release date
gets moved up to the 4th? I'm reminded of The Martian, where
the supplemental material was supposed to be happening in real
time, and then all of a sudden the movie got pushed forward a
month.

Aw, was Mr. Smith holding onto hope.

[glow=red,2,300]Will Smith Reveals 'Terrible' Moment He Found
Out His Independence Day Character Was Killed Off![/glow]
This shocking death was a surprise to many, including Smith —
who "had talked" to director Roland Emmerich about working
together on a sequel. He told Yahoo! Movies:
"I was working on Suicide Squad during that time… The
trailer looks really cool. I'm going to be sitting around with
tears in my eyes when that one comes out… It was terrible when I
found out my character died."
According to a fake newspaper headline on the website, Smith's
character died in 2007 from "an unknown malfunction" while test
piloting an alien hybrid fighter.

Dude, you're not reading between the lines. It's Roland. He will
use Alien DNA to revive Will's character in the 3rd installment,
thus becoming the very thing he use to hunt in the first film.
It's a great twist to the tired cliche of Humans Vs Aliens. Ye
of little faith...... ;D

"Mysterious Accident" = he can still be secretly alive if Will
decides he wants to return.
