A new Wonder Women piece from Alex came out today. I'm also
posting my favorite piece he's ever done: Psylocke.

This guys is really good. He captures not just the likeness but
the essence of each celebrity. I don't even have to write down
their names because it's easy to tell who they are. I just
ordered his book from Amazon 2 days ago and it's has been
shipped. Just waiting patiently for it to arrive at my doorstep.
Check out his website. Very cool stuff and his blog is HUGE.
I've been going through it when I get time. Lots of valuable
information for artist out there.

[glow=red,2,300]Illustrator Witit Karpkraikaew[/glow]
This guy is f ucking with our childhood... that bastige
The internet's affections for the undead and Disney
Princesses are perhaps only matched by its predilection for
seeing familiar characters in semi-unfamiliar situations. Now
that we've gotten that out of the way, these portraits of zombie
cartoon royalty by Thai illustrator Witit Karpkraikaew are so
extraordinarily creepy I can only look at them in my peripheral
vision.
Seriously, that Snow White is making me seriously reconsider a
late breakfast. You can find more of Karpkraikaew's artwork at
his Deviant Art page

— his penchant for bold
colors and over-the-top gore brings to mind some of the zanier
Thai horror movie posters of the 1980s.
I think I still prefer Campbell's rendition of Disney
princesses, who actually kick-started the craze for doing all of
these reinterpretations that are currently flooding the market.

I do like Campbell's princesses (particularly Tinkerbell...
rowr) but I want to see them IN something, some narrative where
they all interact or something. Not just pin-ups.
I dig his Ruff Stuff sketchbooks quite a bit but I do wish we
had more books coming from him, Wildsiderz and so on.

The continuation of Wildsiderz will never happen. He makes way
too much bank with his prints and calendars and appearances at
cons to not even bother with finishing it. I would like to see
it be completed, but I'm not holding my breath. Also, Marvel has
been sitting on 3 issues of of Spider-Man that he drew like 5
years ago and is waiting for him to complete his run on it
before they solicit it for order. This is just a rumor, but it's
been going around for quite some time and he has never denied it
when asked.

I totally get that. It's just kind of aggravating as a
reader... especially because so many other artists are trying to
"be" him and fall far short. He's got this humour to his style
that his copiers don't.

Another reason why I don't think we will ever see another issue
is that with the majority of his fans that bought the first 2
issues when they came out....they are pretty much long gone.
They have moved onto other things. If new issues came out now, I
think it would tank and not sell because new readers will that
know nothing about the series will be asked to go and buy back
issues. He was riding the post Danger Girl wave and anything he
put out was going to sell. He can't use that crutch anymore.
