Fourth Of July 2012
By: Mac Date: July 4, 2012, 10:44 am

This should be under fail. But really it's just documenting a
freakin hot dry summer that cancels most any firework activity.
Most communities around here is cancelling fireworks because of
our drought and all vegetation is so dry it's all a fire hazard.
I believe they still might be doing down by the riverfront. But
there is no way in hell I'm rubbing elbows with thousands of
others downtown in 105 degree, high humidity.
Heart is playing under the arch, but all I can think, I feel
sorry for them.

If I had a chance to see Heart perform tonight, I'd just go and
ask Nancy and Ann to come over to my place for a pool party,
dinner and drinks, supply them with a couple of acoustic guitars
and then lock the door so they couldn't leave. But that's just
me.

I don't know what people are complaining about. This is
AWESOME!!! I guess if you waited all day to only get 18 seconds
worth, then it could be a bummer. Guys now exactly what I'm
talking about.

Okay, back on topic. For locals, fireworks mean nothing to us.
We get free firework shows every night courtesy of Sea World
which puts on a show to close out each night. Even when I'm
outside and the show is in full effect, I don't pay much
attention to it anymore. I haven't for years.

Yeah, we'll raise an InBev product to that.
The USA is one year older, and this year's celebration was oddly
subdued in much of the country -- massive drought conditions led
to the cancellation of fireworks displays all over, including
many in the St. Louis area.
But the show downtown went on over a big, wet river with some
assistance from rock and roll badass Heart. RFT Music
photographer Kholood Eid was among the thousands braving the
heat to bask in all the glory -- a few key moments from the
night's festivities follow:

It's a little bittersweet, but whatever.
