Rayclaw padded towards the apprentice den; knowing she would be
in there. After all it was just past dawn, she would probably
still be sleeping. Once his head was in the small den full of
sleeping cats he managed to smile "Spottedpaw" he called trying
to spot her little body- of course when he thinks little its
actually average size he was just big. "spottedpaw get up your
assessment is happening today!" he meowed more demandingly.

she bounced up behind him, though, eyes shining. "i though you'd
never say those words!" spottedpaw mewed loudly, hoping to
surprise him. "i just went for an early-morning hunt to
practice. i caught a squirrel." the she-cat mewed, carefully
leaving out the part about fairpaw.

He smiled "well you gotta try to catch more then one thing" he
meowed leading the way out of camp, "Now you understand how this
       works?" he asked

she nodded eagerly. "yes." spottedpaw mewed simply, waving her
       orange tail.

Once out of camp he smiled at her, "Alright off you go, good
luck and I will be watching" he meowed to her, he would probably
return to camp before her, that way she wont know where he is AT
       ALL.

spottedpaw darted into the woods, slowing when she reached a
clearing. green eyes glinting, the apprentice tasted the air
carefully. mouse, squirrel, raven, fresh rabbit trail, stale
badger, possibly a blackbird. and is that a chaffinch, possibly?
thinking to herself as scents lathered her tongue, she finally
decided to go after the rabbit first. the trail was fresh and
seemed to smell of young rabbit; she could tell. plus, if she
missed some prey a juicy, fat rabbit might make up for it.
creeping along the trail with narrowed eyes, it wasn't long
until she saw its white tail bobbing in the brush. avoiding
twigs and dry wood, she picked her way closer and closer.
spottedpaw bunched her muscles, using powerful back legs to then
fling herself into the air. crashing down evenly into the
rabbit, she was quick to deal a death blow. triumphantly
dragging the rabbit to a safe place and scraping dirt over it,
she grinned and then went towards the strong scent of raven; one
of her personal favorites. this will feed flightlessstar and her
kits. she thought quietly, still smiling from her catch earlier.
spottedpaw caught the blackbirds trail and then stalked it
       eagerly.

All that went through Ray's mind was that he was hunting her, he
stalked after her, using his pelt to hide him. He was a good
50meters behind her. When she caught the rabbit there was a tiny
gleam of what you would normally call proudness- but then again
he knew she could do better then that. The rabbit was young, if
she wanted to score points, catch a bird- or an older more
experienced rabbit. . She needs to show she can rise up to her
own challenges. . His yellow/green eyes blended into the leaves
in which he was peering through, he wanted to see what she would
       do next.

she could see the raven now, squawking and flying about.
determined to catch it, spottedpaw gripped the bark and started
upward, pulling herself to the next branch fiercely. the bird
now sat still on a thin branch, and she sighed. how to do this?
spottedpaw's eyes gleamed mischievously and she climbed a branch
higher then the bird. clinging to the trunk of the tree, she
turned her head and let out a massive shout. it was risky, yes.
the bird fluttered down to the ground, and she leapt quickly,
landing on the bird sloppily. but she still dealt a final blow,
making it lie still. panting, her ruffled orange fur slid back
to the rabbit, where she added the bird to her pile. again, she
tasted the air. stale scent of badger, fox, and that chaffinch
again. steering away from the border and the growing scent of
fox that made her skin crawl, thinking of when she almost died
when she was once attacked. so she headed towards the sweet
scent of chaffinch, eyes dark with intense thinking. but, as she
crouched when the animal was insight, and then started to jump,
her claw smashing into a rock and tore. cursing as a sting of
pain flitted through her and the chaffinch began to take flight,
the apprentice quickly liked the blood and then ran full-speed
at the chaffinch, ignoring the slight pain. she batted the bird
from the air and then crashed down on top of it, swiping at its
neck before it could wriggle free. it was probably one of her
sloppiest catches, but it was worth it. wringing the blood away
from her claw and dragging the bird to the other prey,
spottedpaw was wary of the growing scent of fox. it seemed to be
close in the area. spottedpaw even took the time to move her
prey-pile into denser forest and farther in thunderclan
territory, hoping the blood off of her torn claw wouldn't
       attract the red-faced, long-snouted animal.

When she caught the finch Ray's attention was drawn to the fox
scent, he didn't trust it- a full grown warrior would struggle
with a fox. She was still an apprentice, and if he had to step
in it could effect her in every way. He allowed himself to get
irritated with the thought of making her fail just because he
had to step in, he wanted her to get to the next level. . .
He crept away from her latest kill, chaffinch scent was next
closest- she would probably go for that. HE managed to position
himself correctly, waiting for her to make her next kill. .
though wounding herself this early wouldn't help her get any
higher- sloppy kills defiantly wouldn't help either. . she had
to focus more- thats what it appeared like anyway. .

she glanced around, scenting the air deeply again. spottedpaw
blocked out the fox for now, carefully picking out her catch.
the apprentice wanted to wow her mentor -he had to be somewhere
around. she'd caught his scent wafting to her a while ago, but
of course rayclaw was well hidden. she missed a mouse because of
a loud noise to the right that forced it into its hole, so
spottedpaw was quick to find another prey; a squirrel. it was
sitting there, eating its nuts. but it was looking right into
her direction, so she whisked herself away before her orange
face became visible. now behind the animal, as she glanced
around she realized that she didn't like all this open space -it
could run easily. but risks are made, right? she crept right up
to the squirrel. spottedpaw's orange paw swept out and she drew
the squirrel to her neatly, giving it a quick, killing nip.
squirrels are too easy. i need something harder. spottedpaw
thought, shaking out her fur angrily. the fox scent still made
her fur bristle, but it seemed more distant -for now. the small
       she-cat scuttled along, searching diligently.
[trying to think of pieces of prey; one that should be her
weaker one so she tries to catch it; or one harder to catch.]
