p r o l o g u e
In a land of peace, a young girl
was born. Her parents were so happy
with her and her twin. But only her mother knew of their powers
and the great things they would do. The blond hair and blue-eyed
baby grabbed at her mother's finger. "Ella Mariana Fullmore."
She smiled at her child. The other baby, whom was brown-haired
and green-eyed, was more solemn and quiet. The mother sighed,
touching her husband. "And Bella Roselita Fullmore." The couple
were a rich family with jobs as top inventors. The owned the
best business in the state, the continent, the world; Fullmore
Inc. The mother had given birth to twins with no problem. The
two were destined for greatness that only the mother knew of,
for she was a powerful and spiritual woman. Not even her husband
knew all about her. But these twins had her power.
Cydell Fullmore knew there would be problems. She was a rich
woman and many wanted her life, her money, her fortune.
Everything. And, some, very few, knew her and her children's
secret. Powers beyond belief. One day, she checked the mail. A
golden envelope came, a letter inside. It stated clearly: Cydell
E. Fullmore Cydell opened the letter curiously. In elegant,
to-good-to-be-true lettering, it said this inside: We know of
your cash, your fortune. But we don't want that. We want you.
Your children.
When your cherished ones reach the sixth floor, you will
perish. Then the only thing protecting the ultimate prize will
perish almost eleven years later. Then, we will break the glass
in year thirteen. Your family will die. With you first. How
would you like to die, dear? Oh, you don't get a choice. We have
planned this long before your children were born. You cannot
stop it. You can hire all the bodyguards and protection you
want, it will not work. Have fun.

-E.
The woman gasped. This couldn't happen. She dropped the
letter and leaned against the mailbox. "No...no, no." Shaking,
she grabbed the letter and shredded it, burned it, and put it's
charred remains in the trash can.
When Mrs. Fullmore's husband asked, "Anything good?"Cydell
shook her head and walked away. Questions echoed in her mind.
What will they do to me? My husband? My children? This can't
happen. Who is E?
As the children grew, it became certain who was the hero and
who was the sidekick. Ella was bold while Bella liked to go
along for the ride. But one day, when it was Ella and Bella's
sixth birthday, their mother was found dead. Ella and Bella knew
and understood more than most six-year olds. Like when the News
did a segment on the horrid murder her mother was in. She had
been out for the day, buying new things for her precious twins.
Allegedly, she'd been kidnapped right out of the store and into
the street. They shot her once, where she'd suffer but not die.
Then they waited for two days, not giving her any food or water
or anything. Her bullet wound became slightly infected without
care. The murderers smuggled her back to the alley where they
beat her and taunted her with food. The woman was bloodied and
knew she would die. But the murderers kept her alive and
tortured. They slightly shocked her with small electricity
volts. She was dirtied. Finally, one last trip to the alleyway.
She was shot three times and burned. Cydell Fullmore was dead,
her charred remains found in that alley. No one truly knows all
they did to her, but they're sure they did more. This is the
best theory from a top detective. Ella and Bella's dad did
everything to find out the mystery and avenge his wife. But he
never did. The cherished mother's death was never found out.
Ella and Bella's mother was lost. They lived simply with their
father with sadness for years.
Who is E?
chapter one- a p e r f e c t day
It was the dead of night when I
awoke. I don't know why I woke up at one o'clock in the morning,
but I did. I clambered out of bed, muttering. Something didn't
feel right. I peeked into my dad's room, then my sisters. Bella,
my sister, and Rob, my dad, were alright. Confused, I crept down
the stairs. But suddenly, I tripped and flew down the stairs,
slamming into the landing's wall- loudly. I shot up, checked
myself, and hobbled upstairs...only to see my drowsy dad and
sister standing there.
"Ella Mariana Fullmore!" My dad chastised me, "What on earth
are you doing up this late? We are sleeping! If you want
something, you could be a little quieter!"
I cringed and Bella started to talk to Dad, seeing I was
hurt. "Daddy, she tripped down the steps! She didn't mean to be
loud! Can't you see she might be hurt? I guess not, 'cause
you're to busy yelling at her to notice!"
My father's sour face changed in realization. My twin always
seemed to know what to say- and know what I had done. Freaky,
huh? But Bella and I- we were connected. Did I tell you we were
mind-readers? Guess not. Well, we were. We could shut our powers
on and off as we wanted- and our dad never knew. It had been my
mom's power, but she'd died years ago in a brutal murder that
was never solved.
"Ella, I'm sorry. I should've thought of that. Are you okay?"
He asked me softly, gently, apologetically.
"I'm fine, Dad. It's not your fault," was what I told him
quickly. "We should all get back to sleep."
I hurried to my bedroom and shut the door and waited. And
waited. Finally, I heard the click of the other doors closing. I
climbed onto my silk-covered bed. Our house -more of a mansion-
was quite expensive. But our parents had been wealthy- stinking
rich. We had everything we wanted. Each and every day was
another day in paradise. But it was boring. Same routine, same
schedule, same...everything. I wanted no more paradise, nothing.
But I shouldn't have wished for that, for an adventure was not
what I got. What I got was sudden and total terror. As I turned
over in my bed and fell asleep, the world around me changed-
forever. I should've stopped there.
***
I drowsily swung my legs over the side of my bed, awake
again. Morning. Time for school. As a senior in high school, my
life was...interesting. I staggered into my bathroom and brushed
out my long blond hair, cleaning my face and looking in the
mirror. My bright sky-blue eyes looked back at me, tired.
Whipping around, I pressed a small purple button and a door slid
open, revealing millions of clothes, accessories, garments, and
more and more. I had everything. I put on a simplistic purple
top and jeans with some blue tennis shoes. I did up my hair in a
ponytail and was just ready. I hurried downstairs and smiled to
Calvin Allino, my neighbor and secret love. We had a special
connection. I quickly grabbed a toast with peanut butter on it
and wolfed it down.
"Calvin," I greeted him. He looked troubled.
"Hey, Ella." He replied.
I felt the feeling in my head I often got. I gently snuck
into Calvin's mind, listening, thinking.
Ugh, how do I tell her? I'm a horrible person.
What? What did he want to tell? "Anything on your mind?"
"Well, er, let's get going first."
I nodded and grabbed a sparkly lunch bag and my bag for
school, stuffing books in it. I swung the door opened the door.
"Bella! You comin'?" I didn't hear any answer, so I didn't
bother. I waved bye to my dad and jogged out the door. Calvin
was on my heels.
"Let's go!" Calvin smiled.
I winked in return and whistled loudly. A purple flame on
wheels came vrrrring up. My car, my perfect fiery purple car. I
got into the front seat and waited for Calvin to arrive in the
passenger seat. As the door slammed, I looked to him. "Let's do
it." The car lurched forward and off we were. The sun beat down
perfectly. I opened the sun roof quickly, and it flung open into
it's door. Our futuristic world was different then my mother and
father had known it. I pressed a yellow button and down dropped
purple sunglasses. I flipped them on and the sun's glare
reflected away from me. I sighed. As we drove, Calvin finally
began to speak.
"You know how my dad's the, uh, senator?"
"Yeah."
"Well, I overheard him speaking, more yelling, on the phone.
And, you know our enemies? Out in the east? The ones that
demolished the French and Brits?" Colin gulped.
Nodding, I waited. "Of course, their the Warus."
"We're in danger. The Waru's are threatening our shrinking
borders, pushing for war. Ella, you know their high with
technology, only a bit behind us. Weaponry status with them is
high." Calvin looked at me seriously.
The Warus. Years ago, before any of us high-schoolers came
into this world, a new group a villagers began to spit of hate.
For everyone. Their population grew, and grew. Eventually, they
had a huge army. They invaded the French, then the British. They
killed them off, captured them, recruited them, forced them into
marriage, made them slaves, and some even begged to be into the
army. The only ones they couldn't destroy were us. The
Americans. We were just ahead of them in advancement. They
caught up quickly. We always knew they were a threat. The Warus
originated from Japanese, thus the "Waru." It was Japanese for
"evil." Some also came from China. Japan and China were always
are friends, until some small group decided they hated the
world. They even took over China and Japan themselves. It was
like the Nazis all over again. We never knew how advanced the
Warus were, but the army believed they were just a smidge behind
us in advancement. The Warus were a secretive bunch. All we
currently knew was that we were the last thing standing in their
way of taking over and enslaving the entire world.
I whipped to a curb and came to a screeching, abrupt stop. I
almost hit a flashy yellow, almost identical car racing past us.
It honked loudly and I screamed back angrily. I shut down the
car and it beeped quietly, then flashed off. I snatched the
sunglasses off quickly and simply threw them on the dashboard.
"What?" I stared at him, eyes evenly serious. "War? Calvin, no."
I muttered worriedly. "This can't be
happening."

I stared at Calvin, silent and
amazed.
"Um, you almost hit that car... He told me nervously.
"Calvin! I am serious! Tell me what the heck you're talking
about!" I growled.
"Look! Slugbug!" He punched me in the arm.
I grabbed Calvin's arm and watched him, silent, serious, and
angry. "Cal."
He sighed and looked at me. "Okay. I was watching TV over at
my dad's when I overheard him arguing on the fun. I turned the
TV down and tuned in.
