Probably a Strong Opinion for a Sensitive Topic
DIR By: Red
Date: April 20, 2013, 5:06 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I'm becoming more and more hesitant to go on tumblr recently.
Aside from a certain social attack that I experienced earlier
this week that's outstanding, I've been attacked just about
every day for a long time now by a community.
The topic in question here is feminism and how it's argued. I'm
a feminist, and although I'm a guy, which is apparently a big
deal or something, I think females should be treated equally in
societies all around the world. I acknowledge that females are
people, and blacks and Asians and whites and all of the other
races of the world are people as well, but what appears to be
most shocking to some groups is that I also think men are people
to. The reason men aren't hopping on the feminist agenda even
when they agree with it, the reason there's not enough males
arguing for equal rights, is that they're being demonized by the
very community they want to help.
A popular topic for feminists to argue is rape due to the
prevalence of offenses made against women. There's a number of
reasons why efforts aren't reaching their full potential, but
one I'd especially like to touch upon is that suddenly, when
someone starts to argue the case, they use the word "men" for
their antagonist. This is strike number one, because they're not
going to be converting any men to their mindset by telling them
that they're idiots for thinking a certain way - all that does
is reinforce it. Have you ever woken up one morning and though,
"Hey, I'm going to clean my room today." and then before you get
started your parents walk in and yell at you to clean your room,
and then suddenly you never want to do it ever again? It's the
exact same situation. I'd like to say that we need to stress
catching more flies with honey than vinegar, or whatever that
saying is. In order to change someone's mindset, the human mind
will respond more positively to positive stimulation, obviously.
It's easier to convince someone when they're already on your
side - all you have to do is agree with them. For the ones that
don't agree, but are willing to listen, why aren't we asking
them why they think that way? We have reason behind our
argument, and they probably have some reason behind theirs.
After that, it's just a matter of educating them WITHOUT
directly telling them that the way they think is a "wrong way of
thinking". This bleeds into LGBTQ stuff as well.
The more we demonize someone in an argument, the less effective
it will be - ESPECIALLY if we are pointing our argument at the
wrong target. Instead of saying that we need to reeducate "the
male mind" to not rape, we should be saying we need to educate
"convicted and prospective rapists" because that's encompassing
everyone ever who could rape someone - not all rapists are men
and not all men are rapists, so why are we saying that only men
need to change? What about rapists who claim to have no gender?
Apparently they aren't included in the argument, so why should
they listen to us at all? It doesn't matter if one demographic
is the majority when it comes to raping people. The point is
that there's people from other demographics that are raping
people too and additionally, there's people in ALL of those
demographics that DON'T do anything bad at all.
Another thing, I urge anyone who speaks up to remember that
rapists, murderers, terrorists, and all lawbreakers are all
humans to. They're the same as us and I'd bet $100 that they
feel the same emotions that we do. That means it's imperative to
treat them with utmost respect, and show them mercy. If one
destroys an entire party that thinks opposite of them, they will
never have an opportunity to learn anything from them at all,
and that doesn't justify killing them after they've played their
part. If everyone thought like this, there wouldn't be any wars
at all, but nonetheless, since that's unlikely, we can only try
our best.
Any attacks/agreements, PLEASE post. The more familiar we become
with everyone's opinions on the topic, the more we can deliver
solid arguments that will lead to things changing for the better
at a faster rate.

Ah, it's midnight, I'm sorry.
To be honest, I'm in agreement of a majority of what you've
brought forth. About to clean your room but your parents come in
and yell at you to do it, I felt the same way for the longest
time. I believed that there were too many women forcing me to
become feminist just because I am a woman.
The accusations women make on men are offensive, yes, and I hate
them. However, I can't think of a time I was any less harsh on a
woman against equal rights than a man.
It is definitely not a choice for me, I would rather side with a
man for equal rights than a woman against them.
But, to give an example of something I've had to go through many
times before; I would, yes, like to continue on the topic of
rape.
There was a young lady recently, who's name escapes me, that was
raped at a party after getting completely plastered and falling
asleep somewhere. The boys had taken pictures of her nude and
circulated them around her school. Things turned to the worst
and she didn't want to deal with the reaction from her parents
and peers so she killed herself. I apologize for being unable to
provide specifics.
The reason I bring this up is because the girl is the person I
would never be, there is always a reason to no commit suicide
and booze/drugs are most definitely not the answer to problems.
In a way, I would call her an utter moron for her actions
leading up to the rape. She did not have to be there. It was her
choice.
See, now, the thing is- they did NOT have to contribute to her
problems.
Urk, I'm not running on the best train of thought right now.
Maybe. Could explain this in the morning? But I had many reasons
to bring this up, I just cannot recall where I was going with
this. Gomen gomen
See, now, I am a person who doesn't believe that an individual
could change the world. I find it very inspiring, I do not find
it truthful.
Again, none of this will make sense. I'm too tired to remember
what I was arguing.

I think I see what you're getting at. You're like, she didn't
have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, type of thing,
right? I mean, they didn't have to rape her, but she wasn't
aware of her surroundings and stuff. I agree that this is a
factor when these things happen. I mean, it's not the victim's
fault, but if they're not taking everything into account, like
variables within their environment, they aren't doing the best
job at avoiding being raped I guess? Does that sound right? It's
late for me now, sorry.

Yeah, that things should be tried on a moral level in sections,
not in whole, in order to be equal I guess.
Even though its still really messed up that rape would occur at
all, to a man or a woman.
But I think I was just mad cause I've been trying to show this
kind of argument to my family.. uh, where you said, "you get
started your parents walk in and yell at you to clean your
room", I have to go through that a lot with my own feminist
views. Because I'm a woman, I am told I must, at all costs,
defend my fellow woman, but sometimes there's just nothing to
argue(or i just cant think of anything). So I'm pushed into a
corner about this subject just like you are, just like my
brother and father are, and I become a common enemy since I
brought up equal rights just as a feminist would. (Though my
arguments with my family might just be because we're really
stubborn..)
To get to the point, I think everyone should be for equal
rights. Whether you're more or less for feminism is up to you,
but its a really good place to start, I think.
Sorry if I took what you wrote into the wrong context, this is
the internet. :v aaahaa

Yeah, I see your point with the second part.
I guess this is kinda meta, but the fact that rape happens at
all is a pretty weird concept. I think that sexuality is only a
social construct that we make up ourselves to identify people,
when I guess it shouldn't really identify us at all. Like,
sexuality, just the concept of it, shouldn't exist. I think
gender should, because biological sex and stuff effects a lot
more than just genitals and breasts and whatever "gender" mind
you have. There are still things that make you your biological
gender, and hey, if someone robs a bank or something, I think
it's fair that people use their gender to identify them and
being them to the authorities. If it's important to respect
people's sexuality/proclaimed gender, then how about we also
respect people's fetishes. That seems fair, right? Just because
this one guy's completely obsessed with black thigh-highs on a
female, or some girl is totally into fursuits, or this other
person apparently has a scat fetish doesn't give people a right
to talk bad about them, right? Now what if someone had a rape
fetish? On the truly radical side, sexuality could just be
integrated into society and no one would ever be raped because
it would be a normal practice - just having sex with everyone
ever. STDs would probably run rampant, but in a world where we
can develop vaccines and cures for them, sex could simply be a
morning greeting. The only reason we're modest about these
things is because society tells us to be. Is that a wenis
(bypassing the chat filter)? Cover it up, ain't nobody wanna see
ur wang, because people will be "insulted" that you were born
with it and it's not something you can readily change. So hey,
discrimination, anybody? If I decide to not wear clothes
tomorrow, I'm suddenly a lot of things deemed unruly by our
culture. I am suddenly a sex-offender even though I had sex with
no one, and being naked suddenly means sex (more of this later
though), I'm a pervert, because who else would want everyone to
see them in the way they're meant to be seen, probably
(esPECIALLY if God exists and made us in his "perfect" image,
according to the bible), and I'm also a lawbreaker because I
can't decide what I can and can't wear when I get up in the
morning. Yeah, society's standards are kinda stupid from this
perspective, but we've already been hotwired, so it's kinda
like, hard to change some of these things, as we know from 300
years of blacks still experiencing racism.
More on "being naked means sex" type of thing, we're so sure
that even the tiniest exposure deemed inappropriate means that
we want intercourse, and, according to keyboard warriors, THIS
APPLIES TO MEN ESPECIALLY, which I'd like to say is a lie. Just
because I have a boner also doesn't mean I want to ****
something, men LITERALLY CAN NOT CONTROL WHETHER THEIR ****
STAYS UP OR DOWN. If you're not a man, don't criticize me or
tell me otherwise. If you are and you beg to differ, teach me
your ways. (I'm kidding) The point is, appearances mean nothing.
When it comes to sex, it feels good (usually) and is only,
functionally, reproduction. We have a law against raping people
because of STDs and the fact that women have to deal with a
prospective human for 9 months out of a year, which is like,
seriously a big deal no matter which way you look at it. I'm
glad the law's in place, but a society could exist, no matter
how odd or gross it sounds, in a potential state of normalized
sex. The only reason we're making a big deal out of it is
because our society has decided that nakedness is taboo and sex
can't be mentioned in front of your grandma.
*keep in mind, there's no exceptions in this fictitious society,
which includes every fetish imaginable, "perfectly" safe sex,
and "perfect" birth control. That means children, maybe dead
people, and possibly animals would be included, but since there
are no morals revolving around the topic of sex or intercourse,
it simply would be viewed as something normal. That means Pedos
(bypassing the chat filter) = LGBTQ = Straights = Furrys =
Necrophiliacs, making everyone truly sexually equal. Think about
this and what implications it has for society. This is Freud on
acid. Is it really a bad thing? Could it be a good thing? Oddly
enough, I urge you to keep an open mind.
Keep in mind, this post is meta, and I don't advocate for a
society to normalize sex, unless it really wants to, I guess. I
don't really care, but I don't advocate it, nor recommend it. I
just wanted to analyze things and make people think. Did I scare
everyone off?

I'm at a loss for words, but I read what you wrote (took some
notes this time so I wouldn't get lost) and I understand
completely.
Now, something to discuss about gender and why we have it. There
are two reasons I could state that are mostly (and most
possibly) true.
1. Humans need a structure, that is why we are human. Our
brains, even though we may not like it from time to time, are
always looking for something to give us balance. Like looking
for the meaning to life, this is Absurdism.
2. People are different and need different things to survive,
that's why we keep gender. We will not be equal in the sense of
being entirely similar, that's why (strangely enough) we should
have doctors for different races. (We might have them already
whoops) There are some diseases that are reoccurring in certain
genders or races that we cannot prevent because that is just
nature, its what happens even if it seems like it shouldn't in a
moral sense.
To prove the second statement, I give you example A:
Klinefelter's Syndrome. This disease occurs only in males and is
due to an extra(or two) X chromosome(s), which causes them to be
more "feminine". It is not apparent in many males, though quite
a few have it, but may become more evident as they get older.
These men have a harder time keeping muscle growth, they are
taller, have less facial hair and broader hips.
Wiki:

HTML http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klinefelter_syndrome
For the racial part, I give you example B: Sickle Cell Dosease.
It affects millions of people, but the majority is in African
Americans and Hispanics. It affects the organs and those who
have it don't live much longer than young adulthood because
there is no common cure yet.
To read more, here's a link:
HTML http://health.usnews.com/health-conditions/pain-management/sickle-cell-disease
HTML http://health.usnews.com/health-conditions/pain-management/sickle-cell-disease
I agree with much of what you've written, but that's a very hard
place to imagine(it is a nice thought, though, a perfect world).
What I mean is, there are rules to our society that keep us
human because we dress appropriately(we have nudists though,
which is cool, that's a way of life. Simplicity, simplicity,
simplicity).
To what degree that functions is seriously up to the viewer,
some people believe that "love" is a fetish only because it
isn't in regular, animalistic pron.(bypassing the filter)
