       What is griefing?

Because this has become an issue over time that has built
momentum I am going to make a post with a brief description of
what griefing is followed by scenarios to give you a better
       understanding.
Griefing- The act of destroying building on or simply altering
another players build or property (given the property is clearly
claimed). and dont forget enviromental grief.
Destroying- Breaking any blocks is destructive and if you break
it and leave without fixing it then it cannot be assumed as
accidental. Accidents do happen though so please make sure you
repair the damage that is done before going on about your
       minecrafting adventure.
Altering- If you are in a players house and see something you
feel could be improved and you make that change without that
players permission you are griefing. Futhermore if a player
gives you permission to alter 1 specific object and you alter
others in the process you could get in trouble depending on the
size. Odds are it will just be rlled back but please pay
attention to what permission you have been given EXACTLY AS IT
       WAS GIVEN.
Building- This one has some grey area much like altering.
sometimes players feel they are entitled to all the land just
around the build rather then the builds themselves. But unless
that land has been protected as requested by that player it is a
free for all. But out of respect do not build in another players
town. And dont put your building 1 block away from another
players building. Build away from thier buildings atleast some
good distance. Once again this is a grey area and how its
handled is up to the mod/admin at that time.
Enviromental- This one has no grey area. This is the act of
using the enviroment to grief others. Falling blocks such as
sand and gravel have had thier gravity disabled some so and lava
isnt placeable and doesnt flow. Atleast on this server
currently. However placing water in the air all over the place
is a enviromental grief and an extremly annoying one at that. I
dohope no mercy is given to those who do this.
Now thats pretty much it have a good one =]

I agree with some of these, but their need to be exceptions.
Just yesterday a user claimed he was greifed. When I
investigated, it turned out another member of his faction had
taken his melons. This can not be inherently dscribed as greif,
since they are technically allies. I told the Faction leader to
       punish him somehow.
I do like these rules, but I must insist thsat factions be taken
into consideration. If someone borrows food because you are
allies, then we can't ban him for grefing, per-say.
