Badges and ranks?

How do you get the sepparate badges and ranks are they awarded
or do you get them having reached a certain number of posts?

They're just reflections of your post counts, and also a quick
way of telling who has been posting a lot. They're mostly there
for fun and interest, and to give this forum a kind of military
flavour, as most of us are military enthusiasts in some way or
another. There is a similar system on JG, but it's only the
number of gold pips which changes - the overall rank name "Paper
King" still stands. I wouldn't bother post-spamming just to get
more ranks, though; even the highest poster on JG (Daniel, 9067)
still wouldn't have attained the highest rank here. Just keep on
contributing as normal and be pleasantly surprised/rewarded when
you see your icon change.
As for badges, if you mean the ones you find by clicking
'badges' within your forum profile; those have been disabled.
